How to play KJs
Typical MTT situation, 1/2 - 2/3 of the players gone, you're an avg stack overall, 3rd or 4th on the table. A couple of crappy players, most decent / nothing special. 5 limpers to you, KdJd, fold/call/raise?

Re: How to play KJs
Your regular open raise for a semi-bluff steal.

You need to include more information if you want to get a good response. What are the limits? What are the blind sizes ? Did antes kick in yet? |

Re: How to play KJs
My desire was for a more generic response to a "typical" "middle of the MTT" situation with a big enough stack, but the particular situation that prompted the post was this:
800ish 30+3 / about 250 left so avg is ~3500 Blinds 75/150 SB - 2.1k BB - 1.6k seat5 - 2.4k seat6 - 1.9k seat7 - 7.4k seat8 - 200 seat9 - mowrmowr (2k) seat10 - 2.6k seat1 - 2.3k seat2 - 9.8k Seats 5 and 6 limp to me. Action? Only "read" is that I'm confident if I limp I'll get at least 1-2 more limpers behind me...passive table. |

Re: How to play KJs
If you make a mid raise you make a big pot and your opponents might call behind with any two. You have the chip leader on the button, and he might make a position raise to steal your raise or he could raise to knock out the limpers and isolate you.
If you raise 4x the blinds you have commited yourself to the pot basically and might have moved all in. I do not like playing too many hands against an UTG limper. Your hand appears good but with your stack if you play the hand, it could be your last hand. You have larger stacks behind you. You have slightly less chips then player 5 and slightly more then player 4. If you did choose to play the hand an all in would not be too bad of a play. This should prevent the later position players from entering the pot. This also stops them from raising you. They have position and more chips. Especially the button. He should fold to an all in except if he has Aces or Kings or Queens. As for me, I fold and curse the poker gods for giving me a good hand in a bad position. |
