Double up or get up question
Do you follow a general formula (10X BB) for determining whether to limp or go all in late in a tournament? Assume you are in the money and short stacked.

Re: Double up or get up question
This was me today! I was shortsacked all tournament on Party. I barely made it to top 20. In fact I was 2nd lowest at 21 players and not by much. I wouldnt play a hand till I made it for the last 40 hands or so. Unless of course I had gotten a big hand, which didnt happen. When I was so short, and this was during 3 shall we say periods of the tournament, I shoved when I had a hand. Now I didnt shove with KJo. I wouldnt even look at a flop with it. I just waited and waited. late position, pretty hand....pocket pair higher then 8's, ALL-IN baby. It worked for me. I scratched and clawed to 2nd place. Becuz I was playing so tight I often got what was out there. Even when there had been a small EP-MP raise. Fine by me.

Re: Double up or get up question
Not really, short stacked PF anyhow, any ace is good ace is my strategy, but I wait for the ACE... no KQ KJ crapper...
If I had more time against the antes/blinds I might hope for a Ax suited or any pair... I am talking about a stack so short I can't survive 10 more antes+blinds... If I am down to last 3 hands before I am auto-toast, any 2 suited cards, any JT, T/9, or Ax/Kx/Qx is an AI. Last time this happened it was K8s and I lost to trips on the river. -t |
