Default using DVI cables, can you adjust brigtness on your 2001FP ...??????

When using DVI cables, can you adjust the brigtness on your 2001FP on the monitor's menu?? I know I can adjust the brightness under display properties. I am wondering if moving the brightness on the monitor's menu has an effect. I have the ablity to adjust the brightness from 0-100% from the 2001FP menu, but nothing changes. Whereas the monitor doesn't allow me the oppurtunity to adjust the contrast using DVI (thats fine). Thanks for your help.
