I am assuming that is 7% more fun.

Bad arithmatic WDC, 22% compared to 15% is more like 50% more fun !. And that isn't factoring in the likelyhood that those 7% additional hands probably have a higher fun quotient.

Are you more profitable than those whith a 15%?

I would guess so. Over the last couple of years, I am at a little over 2BB/hour/table, and since I started using pokertracker my relatively insignificant database has a roughly equivalent 3+/100 winrate.

Default Another way of looking at it.

Lets say there was a game where there were 10 possible hands.

Being dealt a hand costs you 1 bet.

Hand number one is worth 15 bets.

Hand number two is worth 5 bets.

Hand number three is worth 2 bets.

The rest of the hands are either neutral or negative.

A player who plays only hand number one will win 5 bets every 10 hands.

In this imaginary game, a player who plays one and two will win 10 bets every 10 hands, and a player who plays one, two and three, will win 12 bets every 10 hands. Every time you add a positive number to the sum, the number gets larger.

The problem with poker, is that the value of hand number three changes based on the player and the game conditions. A lot of what this forum discusses, and what is contained in SSH, is how to make hand number three a positive value, and also how to recognize when hand number four is a positive value.

The really cool thing, is when you can add three and four into the mix, you probably get more value from hands one and two.

Good luck,
play well,

Bob T.

FWIW, I agree with Bob T.

The more I play, the more convinced I get that a VPIP of slightly over 20% can perform as well or better depending on lots of factors more important than how tight you are preflop.

But what do you play to get >18%?
I am pretty much following the PF guidelines from SSH for tight games, and I'm at 14.5% after ~9k hands at PP 2/4. Looking at the SSH charts I can only find three hands there that I normally don't play; K9s, Q9s and J9s from MP. On the other hand I often play a few hands not listed, e.g. small pocket pairs and medium suited aces from EP.

What on earth should I add?

Dead on. Though I think a skilled player like yourself can make more than just fun with those extra hands.

My VPIP in the 15 is over 20 and I do fine. I'm sure you can play 5/10 @ 22% VPIP and crush it.

Good luck.
