When to stop pushing with overcards that misses flop?

Party Poker 0.5/1 Hold'em (9 handed) converter

Preflop: Hero is MP2 with J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img].
1 fold, UTG+1 calls, 1 fold, Hero raises, 3 folds, SB calls, 1 fold, UTG+1 calls.

Flop: (7 SB) 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 4[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 6[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (3 players)
SB checks, UTG+1 checks, Hero bets, SB calls, UTG+1 calls.

Turn: (5 BB) 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (3 players)
SB checks, UTG+1 checks, Hero checks.

River: (5 BB) T[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (3 players)
SB checks, UTG+1 checks, Hero checks.

Final Pot: 5 BB

Should I continue betting out on the turn, or is checking fine to see the river for free? Since the pot is small I was planning on folding to a bet on the turn or river. Correct?

Any reads? If I think the opponents are tight and they called with a marginal made hand, somelike like K6,A4 hoping to improve, then I bet the turn again hoping to take it down. If they are loose/passives I check behind. If I'm called I'm looking to fold UI on the end to a bet.

My general rule of thumb is that I never fire the second bullet (turn) if it's still 3-way. I play the hand the same.

This is way too simple and bad advice. There are so many things to consider such as your opponents, position, the board, etc etc. These kinds of simple rules will do nothing to improve your game.

He was just saying it's a default line, which is my default line here as well.

I think I would fire another bullet on this one. No one is showing strenghth. It was raised PF and there are no big cards out there so it's fairly likely that people still have nothing.
I'd give it a try and fold if I was check-raised.

He was just saying it's a default line, which is my default line here as well.

Fair enough. I interpreted it as he meant that he always checks overcards with 3-handed no matter the situation. I hope you agree that this cannot be a default line in any situation (eg AK is a pretty easy bet here).

I agree, every situation is different. Unimproved overcards against multiple players here is always difficult. Honestly, I'm not sure why AK is a easy bet here when we seem to agree that checking AJo is okay here as well.
