2005 WSOP Player of the Year

Do Card Player and the WSOP use different criteria for rating the WSOP player of the year? Card Player has "Dan Druff" Witteles as having the most points, while the WSOP is proclaiming Allen Cunningham as the player of the year. What criteria does the WSOP use? Sorry if this has been discussed.

Card Player gives points only to to the final table, ESPN gives points to a certain percentage of the field for all WSOP events as well as the WSOP Circuit events. Also, Witteles finishes were 1-3, while Cunningham had finishes of 7-4-4-1.
