Default Buy-in In Unique 5-10 Game

I am travelling to Puerto Rico and plan to play some poker there. However, the game as I understand it is a variation on a standard 5-10 game I have never had experience with. It is 5-10, but pflop and all streets can be raised 10 dollars. For example, an UTG raise preflop can make it $15 to go. Has anyone played in a game like this? How would this change my buy in? Also any tips on playing a structure like this couldn't hurt. Thanks.

Sounds like a 10/10 game with a $5 big blind structure. I'd buyin for 500 to 800 depending on how aggressive the game is.

If it's holdem, there would be need to wait for the turn to raise - get your money in when you hit the flop. Raising the flop for a free card on the turn won't have the same bang for the buck.

Agreed. Just like the excalibur 2-6 spread limit game, this is a game where you make most of your money preflop and on the flop, but can't force your opponents to make a big mistake on the turn very often (as you can in split limit games).

Also, it appears the blind structure is too small for the limit. That means you can play very tightly and not get punished by the blinds. Perhaps paradoxically, it also means the implied odds preflop are higher, thus you can play more hands such as suited connectors. Just be more cautious than usual when calling preflop raises, as you're getting a worse price.
