Lederer is the only TV commentator that doesn't make my teeth hurt.

Re: The Professor, the Banker, and the Suicide King
Some TV interview/clip Todd Brunson was talking about the $$ involved. He said something to the effect of - you have to look at it as just so many chips. That says something about the mindset. Not X% of my stack, not X dollars, just so many chips.

Re: The Professor, the Banker, and the Suicide King
I thought that part was interesting as well. The best poker player ever (in many people's minds) didn't want his own son to play poker! That says alot about the negatives of playing poker for a living.

Re: The Professor, the Banker, and the Suicide King
This book is fantastic and I also couldn't put it down. It was very interesting to see Beal not only realize that the pros often made fundamental mathematical mistakes, but realized this was the ground at which he could gain his advantage.
Coming into the first full table games at the Bellagio as a fish, you immediately see how smart the man is. He realizes that the high stakes make amateurs uncomfortable and passive, trying to save bets. So he began raising the stakes until the professionals themselves began playing scared. Awesome stuff, and Howard Lederer seems to be a pretty smart guy. |

Re: The Professor, the Banker, and the Suicide King
This book was tremendous. As many other posters have said, it was difficult to put down. Highly recommended for an poker fan.
For those looking for poker strategy, find something else. This was not meant to be a poker strategy book, nor does it try to be. The poker strategy that does make it in the book is simplistic, but that's fine. The other 99.9% of the book is tremendous. |

Re: The Professor, the Banker, and the Suicide King
[ QUOTE ]
All technical details were missing. [/ QUOTE ] This is because the players were all reluctant to discuss details. The only reason that the Bruson straight losing to rivered full house was on there was because Brunson got up and showed everyone the beat he had taken. This made it verifiable that the hand had happened. |
