Default 99 UTG, I feel lost.

First question is preflop. I'm more used to 6-max, (where 99 utg is raise/borderline cap to a 3-bet), table is reasonably loose and very passive preflop.

Villain is slightly loose, no egregius aggro so far. His stats turned out to be (30.5/4/2) for the session. Something about the flop raise just felt wrong....

Lead the turn?
Check fold turn?

Once I'm at the river I have to call, right?\

Turn is a call. You have six outs (6.6 to 1) with 8.25 BB in the pot.I would call the river.

Why?

Is Vilian playing 88 or something? I suppose 88 could cold call the raise, and come up with a raise on the flop figuring the hero to miss this board, but still may have bet at it.

I'm not sure what I would do on the river.

With the turn card giving you extra outs check/call is probably your best play here.

Good question Sarge I don't really have a good answer. You only have to have the best hand less than 10% of the time against a loose villian but I sure wouldn't argue with a river fold.

TT is my cutoff for raising pocket pairs UTG. I think with 99 you will run into a 3 or 4 handed flop with overcards a bit more often than you would like. That said I would play this hand the same way you did here. Calling on the river is fine because your line looks like it could be AK, and I can see a loose player betting any pair against you here, not to mention the pot is fairly large.

I dont think the 2 9s are clean outs. Sure it gives you trips but also puts 4 to a straight on the board. Also the gutshot isnt 100% clean cuz, though unlkely, tanother player can have a 9 and you chop. Instead of 6 outs, I would caluclate 4 or 5 tops...it's still close, but not a clear cut call.

Hi Merc the only hand we are behind here that taint our outs are 10 8 and 10 9. I think the outs are pretty clean.

If the 6 on the flop were a 5, you should fold to the initial raise, because you have no backdoor straight outs and you're not getting enough (implied) odds to spike your set. Also, if UTG+2 had folded to your bet - leaving just you and the raiser - I would fold to the raise.

Your call on the turn is standard. I would fold the river.

I think calling too much at the river when I am behind is one of my major leaks, but aren't we good here at least once out of 10 times to call the river.
