Default First live game

Going to the closest casino that offers poker to my house on friday, to play some 2-5 nl. Iv played live with my friends obviously, but never for any significant amount. I play 1-2 and 2-4 nl games online, and have enough of a roll for this to be a safe attempt.

I was hoping for some advice or tips for my first trip. What are the mian differences between live and online play,
Thanks, ahnuld

expect standard opening raises of at least 5xBB and smaller post-flop bets proportional to the pot, obviously attributable to the lack of a constantly updated digital readout of the pot size

Very helpfull aggie. Isnt it you who posted just today how this forum has gone downhill? How is this comment supposed to be of any use. It isn't in the least bit funny or clever. In fact it's sad that you bothered to reply in that manner at all. This was a real question I had and I'm sure you are very capable of posting something that would be of use to me. So instead of posting garbage like you did above, please do not post at all.

The main differences? I find that the live games I go to tend to be looser. In addition, you can pick up certain vibes, tells, reads and body language from players that will help your decisions.

If this is your very first time, you will feel very different. It will be a new experience handling chips and making your actions clear. There will be distractions: background noise, stuff to look at, the chatty guy next to you, etc. You will get the hang of it quick enough, but you will feel like a rookie for a bit. There is a real chance that this will affect your play, simply because there is all sorts of sensory input that you don't have playing online.

Another thing I find is that many people somehow feel that chips are more like money than clicks online. Actually tossing chips in the pot can sometimes be harder.

None of this is to say that playing B&M is harder than playing online, it is just different. Don't underestimate the effect of the differences your first time out of the gate. Take it slow the first few orbits to get oriented.

One last thing: you should tip. You don't have to do that online.

Unfortunately you failed to pick up his sarcasm. I speak for many when I say that stupid questions deserve stupid answers. What makes you think that your question is appropriate in the Mid-, High-Stakes PL/NL Forum?

So you're asking for generic tips on how to win at live play? Well, it's a lot like online poker, except you won't see as many hands per hour, players regularly make "standard pf raises" with questionable hands (like AJo), and it's easier to pick up on other players' tells. You'll just have to get a feel for it yourself.

If you're asking for generic advice on how to play live poker, try writing your post in the General and/or B&M Cardrooms forums.

First off ..Richie ..this is hardly a stupid question. the guy is just asking for some tips on his first trip to the casino poker room ...what is stupid about that. Secondly, wouldn't you agree that sarcasm is one of the things bringing down the forum...just a thought

i stopped playing online about a month or so ago and only play in casinos now. I think your best option is to play premium cards (in position) for a while until you feel comfortable and then move into your normal style. I can assure you that if you are playing any level no limit you will have atleast one pro at your table perhaps more. The table i usually play at has atleast 1 or 2 every session. I enjoy playing with them and learn alot. (and yes i usually try to stay out of their way) good luck and keep us posted.
