I think that was to clear the way for the dinner break, but pokerpages had something about the media rules that I'm going to start another thread about.

"Harrahs in their infinite wisdom issued several hundred media passes and now wonder why there are so many of us. The new plan....

There are 4 "bullpens", a staging area if you will, set up for us to "be". We will be issued ONE pass at a time to go into the room from each bullpen. We can go through the room culling information as fast as we possibly can for a period of 5 minutes, then, we have to pass the badge to the next person, media outlet, whomever is in line next. So, chip counts, hands, etc will now come to a screeching slowdown. The media room is already a trashed out zoo, with over 50 computers and about 18 outlets. So, get ready to watch this. It is what I would now call a cluster of clusters."

Most of the world didn't pay any attention, thinking the World Series of Poker begins and ends with Event #42 ($10,000 No-Limit Hold'em Championship). So now that the Championship is upon us, media outlets from around the world have flooded the Rio to cover the "beginning" of the World Series. You'd think they'd realize that Event #42 had forty-one events preceding it.


The Media Room, which used to be an area of quiet seclusion away from the floor, has become a madhouse, with dozens and dozens of people competing for just a few power outlets and internet connections.


The worldwide media first showed up the day before the Main Event, just in time to play in the Celebrity/Media Charity Event. It attracted a record 245 players, with only a small handful of celebrities represented. That's nearly three times the size of last year's field for the same event.


The media presence is overwhelming, so they've created a new policy prohibiting us from "sweating" the players. It was fine when there were just a few of us here, because we knew how to respect the players and the game. But now, with hundreds of random reporters, bloggers, and online poker site reps, they don't always understand the difference between observing the action and affecting the action.


Remember the reports from Day One about rookie players asking silly questions? Those of us (like Card Player) who have been here for weeks know all the stories that have been developing throughout this year's World Series: Allen Cunningham, Johnny Chan, Doyle Brunson, Mark Seif, Jennifer Tilly, Barry Greenstein, and many more. Yesterday, someone in the media asked me if Johnny Chan had done anything big in the last year or two. Anything big? How about ten bracelets? Is that big enough for you?


Unfortunately, the media situation will get even worse as the field size gets smaller. We should have a media-to-player ratio of 1-to-1 by the end of today. Clearly, something will have to be done."

Ya think? Obv'ly Harrah's first respblty is to the tourney players, and hey, its all gone off 99% smooth 'cept maybe the money bubble.

But they clearly need to plan better for next year.

Man, they better have someone smart figuring out how to fit everyone down at Binions Thur-Fri or we'll be lucky to find out who even won by Saturday night, let alone any details. [img]/images/graemlins/tongue.gif[/img]

Looking for the most recent chip update. When was their dinner break and was there an official chip count taken at that time? Pokerpages still has their chips at the beginning of play today, and cardplayer is a few hours behind.

I find it a bit funny that the CardPlayer piece mentions media asking dumb questions when they have Rich Belski, aka John Phan's PR Man, asking some brilliant stuff himself in their videos.

I know nothing to the extent of not knowing what Chan's done, but...
