Default Johnny Chan story

Just a short, but interesting, story from my first table of the $1000 rebuy tournament with Johnny Chan.

Chan shows up late and rebuys right away to about 2000. Within the first couple hands he's dealt in, I limp UTG (blinds 25-25), UTG+1 limps behind with over 2000, folds to Chan in the CO and he makes it 300, folds to me, I fold, UTG+1 now makes it 1000 more on top of Chan's raise. Chan stares him down for a short while and mucks KK face up! This is the frickin rebuy period!!!! I would have thought he didn't know it was a rebuy tournament if I hadn't seen him rebuy 5 min ago. Anyways, someone asks UTG+1 if he had AA and he says he did, convincingly. He then asks Chan "You don't think I could have queens?" "No, you only have aces." UTG+1 then says, "I don't even want to play anymore after that."

The very next hand, folds to Chan in LP, he open limps for 25, SB checks his option, and I check A6o in the BB. Flop is 643r, SB checks, I bet 50, Chan calls, SB now makes it 500, I consider moving him in for his last 500 or so but decide to fold, Chan now immediately mucks QQ face up, and SB promptly shows AA!

It was pretty incredible.

Johnny Chan (and I say this with all seriousness) is 1000x the man I will ever be.

The legion of genius players on this board (you know who you are) would ridicule Chan from making such horrible tight-weak laydowns in +EV situations.

According to the 2+2 Gospels, you'll never do well in this game if you pass up +EV opportunities like that all the time.
