Hmm... is this bet really that easy? I guess i'm missing something here just because i did check it down and lost to a very odd hand, A4h for a rivered gutshot. what if i bet this and get raised, do i safely fold?

[/ QUOTE ]

You can't fold the river to a raise from any kind of thinking player. They could be trying to blow you off a small pair or even AK/AQ.

Default Is it really that easy of a bet?

Against a "loose/passive" player. How loose? Will they call w/ their busted flush draw? With bottom pair? Are the passive enough to have hit an 8 and be afraid of the flush?

I'm horrible at value betting the river, so this is a genuine question, but isn't there a big difference between thinking you have the best hand, and thinking you'll get called by a better hand? There are a lot of hands that beat Hero that a "passive" player wouldn't show aggression with, out of fear. There are only a few hands that such a player calls a river bet with that is worse than 1 pair.

Is it really that easy of a bet, what am I missing?

I am under the assumption that a loose passive player could easily have an 8 here... however, I would still bet, as they tend to call with weak holdings. If raised, I can easily fold, as if he is passive, he surely has me beat once he raises....
