Default The Gilpin in Black Hawk, CO Poker League

I'm just guaging interest here, because I'm not sure yet whether I'd even be able to do it or not. Would anybody in the Denver area care to get a 2+2 team together for The Gilpin's now-forming NLHE poker league? Frankly, I'd just be doing it for fun more than the prize money.

The league is 10 4-man teams. Each Sunday at Noon, for I believe 4 weeks, each man will play in one of four single-table tournaments, earning points for where he finishes. Winning one of these qualifying tournaments gets you a bonus 5 points. After the qualifying tournaments, there's a final multi-table tournament where each player gets 100 chips per point that his team earned in the qualifiers.

Buy-in is $200+$50 per team. Payout is 50% to first, 30% to second, and 20% to third place. Winning team also gets free entry into the next league to defend their title.

I've e-mailed the room (tournament?) director at The Gilpin, Brian Weaver (Weav) for a few more details, which I'll share when I get a response.

Oh yeah, I think they're looking to get this started as early as Sunday August 21.

I'm definitely interested, and I could possibly get at least one more player. I go to school in Golden, along with the other person, so times/dates will definitely matter. I saw the flyer for it, but didn't put much stake in it as I probably couldn't get 3 solid team members. Let me know as soon as you find out more details.

I'd love to see a 2+2 team kick some butt in this.

I might be interested. I live in Fort Collins so it is a bit of a drive. Keep my informed on the details.

Alright, I've been e-mailing back and forth with Weav today to get a few more details. It looks like it'll be Sundays at 10am. They said Noon before, but he's talking 10am now.

The 'team' component of it isn't quite as strong as I was hoping, as each player gets chips based on how well he did, not the whole team. Also, in the end, it's all about the final MTT, as it's first, second, and third in this tournament that determines payouts - the preliminary SNGs only determine starting chip stacks (given this, it's possible that our team could take all three cash places and take all the cash). In this way, it's similar to Fox Sports Net's Poker Superstars tournaments, except everyone makes it to the final tournament.

Now that I read back over the e-mails, it looks like maybe there will only be 6 teams instead of 10? It's not real clear - maybe Juanez can clear that up for us or else I'll get back to Weav if it's really a big deal.

In the end, this is something that nobody else has done before, at least in this area. It's a bit of a work in progress. The $50 juice sounds a bit high in relation to the buy-in, but that's only $2.50 per person per tournament, which is unheard of. Weav made it sound like if this goes over well that there's a good chance that it'll go to something more like $500+$100, which I'm in favor of.

I was in the Gilpin Last Saturday and the signs in the casino say it is 5 weeks of play 1 weeknight per week, $140 per team of 4. They had several signs around with the info. Have they changed the terms and not the signs? They changed their tourney schedule last week, but the website still has the old schedule so it wouldn't surprise me...

FYI, it's a very nice room and last Sat night had 15 of 16 tables going I believe. The 2-5 games are fun and fishy.

It is $200+$50. I guess it was originally to be $100+$40, but the $40 ended up being too big in proportion to the $100 (and hardly any money for them $50 still isn't much to be honest). I was sending e-mails back and forth with Weav yesterday. I told him about the website being out of date and he said it would be updated today. I haven't looked yet to see if this is the case.

Oh yeah, and when I asked about it last Saturday, they said it'll be Sundays at Noon, but Weav said 10am now and they're looking to get the first one started on August 21. Right now, it's 4 weeks of SNGs before the final MTT.

Alright, guys. It's time to start declaring your interest. PM me if you want to be on the team - I'd like to get us signed up this weekend. Maybe we can meet up there on Saturday or Sunday for one of the tournaments, get signed up for the league, and collect everybody's share of the buy-in.

Myself, I might already have a problem making it to one of the tournaments - I've got friends coming into town over Labor Day weekend, so it might be tough to make that day's tournament. If the play goes like many of the other tournaments, though, I'll probably still get about 5th-7th place with my stack just getting blinded off.
