If there was any doubt about Stars support ...
I was having -- am having -- a very bad run in SnGs. After dropping down a level, I not only couldn't win but my connection went south for most of the night. On a whim, I wrote them asking if there was anything they could do.
Response: Hello William, I have looked into your playing history for Tournament 14918234 and found that you missed a substantial portion of this tournament. As we consider you a valued player at PokerStars I have issued a credit of $27.00 to your account. Please understand that we did not suffer any server-side problems or disconnection during this tournament. Your problems seem to have been local to your computer or ISP; otherwise many players would have been disconnected, and that wasn't the case. Part of the inherent risk of playing poker on the Internet is the possibility that Internet connections may fail for any number of reasons. From a practical business standpoint, it is impossible for us to be responsible for the Internet connections of our players. Please note rule 8 of the tournament rules located at: http://www.pokerstars.com/tournamentsrules.html This rule states, in part: By participating in a tournament, a player accepts the risk of Internet disconnection, due to the problems with the connection between their computer and the servers, lag or freeze or some other problem in the player's computer. PokerStars does not accept any responsibility for a player disconnect except in the case of a server crash." For these reasons, we cannot make a practice of refunding tournament buy-ins and hope to continue running profitable tournaments. In closing, we appreciate your business and hope that you continue to enjoy playing at PokerStars. Best regards, Andrew PokerStars Support Team |

Re: If there was any doubt about Stars support ...
I still don't buy the argument that all these supposed 'miracle river cards' would actually increase their profit.
lots of times in cash-games, they come after the rake has already been maxed. Thus, a miracle river-card just increases the action and delays the next hand...thus, actually HURTING their profits. In SNG's and MTT's I don't see how miracle river-cards help their profits...although the argument has been made that the winning players are going to keep playing anyway, so let the fish win to keep them playing too. Something like that. I don't buy it though. Anyway...nice to have you back Gabby. |

Also I was thinking today about tournaments.. Common logic would dictate there would be no benefit of them rigging any of those games. Before I continue let me share with you how these sites make money. They make money from collecting rake. It would be extremely counterproductive if one person knocked out the other 9 in a cash game. They want everyone playing and with money. Not just one person, since they don't make rake with just one person at the table. Ok I will continue about tournaments.. So say you have a guy who is up about 2 grand for the week. Then you have another who is down about 500 and is about to go broke. It would be in the sites best interest to let the poor guy win a few bucks in a tourney so he can continue playing in some cash games. REMEMBER, the sites only make money when everyone is playing. In reality they don't want anyone to bust out. They would love for the money to get shuffled around and around and around until their rake eats up most of it. Good to see you too Bob. |
