Default I think the dark bet is dumb

Cantebury 8/16. I got ripped by villain here for not betting the turn. Young punk.

I raise in the CO after 1 limper with A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]Q [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. Punk calls in the BB. limper calls.

Flop (3 ways)
J [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]5 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]8 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

punk leads, limper folds, I raise, punk calls.

Turn: 4 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]

check, I check, punk then declares "bet dark"

River: 2 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

I raise, punk calls. jackass.

I would bet the turn with my 15 outs (plus your hand may even be best on the turn as is.) He was right, but his river dark bet was far worse than what you did.

I never said I thought it was unfair. I just think it is completely idiotic.

Why bet the turn? He lead the flop. He's not folding a better hand.

He couldn't have 10-9 out of the BB? Plus who cares if he has the better hand...you're likely to have 15 outs. Maybe he's jus betting an 8 or a pair of 7's to see what you do. Automatically checking behind on the turn with this holding is a big mistake (not saying it isn't correct to do sometimes). My guess is if you whiffed on the river and he bet, you'd pay the punk off cause your turn checked showed weakness (since it basically telegraphed overs). If you wouldn't pay him off, you could get yourself bluffed on the end. I just think betting the turn w/ such a strong draw is far superior to your line.

Instead of raising the river right away, you could have kicked him in the nuts, THEN raised the river. Friggin' punk.

I watched JBB bet the river dark with a lock low into 4 players in 2/4 O8 at Foxwoods last summer. He got counterfeited. And raised. Good times.

Checking the turn is fine here a lot of the time.
