Re: Greatest sports comeback ever!
Jim MacLaren's story has little to do with sports.
Saying that his was the greatest comeback in sports is like saying that guy who played the WSOP without the use of his arms was a better poker comeback than Jack Strauss coming all the way back from 1 chip to win the WSOP main event. One is life, one is sport. |

Buffalo bills vs oilers. I was there and it was amazing. Although I did want to leave at halftime. Good thing we didn't. What a game.

Re: Greatest sports comeback ever!
The Colts comeback over Tampa Bay on MNF in 2003 was better than this one. The Bucs led by 21 with less than 4 minutes to play in the 4th quarter. Colts won by 3 in overtime.

My favorite moment was during halftime when ABC did their Mic'ed up segment with Keyshawn Johnson. Key said that Marv padded his stats with little catches, and that he (Key) always outperformed other WRs from the '96 draft. Marv ended up with well over 100 yards and a couple scores. A couple of weeks later Key was kicked off the team. And the whole thing happened on Dungy's birthday. |

I coached a girls' HS bball team that came back from down 50-32 with 6 minutes left, and down 64-59 with :05 left to win 80-79 in 2 OT.

The Red Sox coming back from 0-3 is overrated. [/ QUOTE ] agreed if they're 50% to win each individual game, the chances (after the game 4 win) is 1/2*1/2*1/2 = 12.5% chance hardly "greatest sports comeback ever" |

Julio Cesar Chavez stopping Meldrick taylor with 2 seconds of the final round to go. [/ QUOTE ] Meh. There have been plenty of better boxing comebacks than this. Chavez was beaten on the scorecards certainly, but it's not as if he were beaten to a bloody pulp or anything when he managed to find that one big punch to win it. You knew he was in it. Chavez always had a puncher's chance. |

Re: Greatest sports comeback ever!
Because it hasn't been mentioned yet, I'll nominate Kentucky coming back from 31 down in the second half to beat LSU in men's basketball. Forget the year.
Duke's 10-point rally in the final minute against Maryland ... ugh that sucked. Maryland also blew a 23-point first-half lead to the bastards in the Final Four. God, I hate Duke. (I say that with utmost respect, too.) The Bills/Oilers game is obviously way up there. Also, Reich rallying Maryland past Miami in the Sugar Bowl. For a comeback in a playoff series ... well, duh. (Edit: To the person who said the Red Sox comeback is overrated and mentioned percentages ... yeah, by the percentages it may be, but it's still the ONLY TIME in baseball history it's ever happened. That has to count for something.) |

A vastly inferior team is usually not going to win four straight. The Red Sox, however, were clearly not vastly inferior to the Yankees. They were at least as good, and probably better. The Red Sox beating the Yanks four times in a row wasn't a schocker. Hell, the Yanks had just beaten the Sox thrice in a row. Was that schocking? |
