Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs if you have any sort of interest in pop culture.

amazing stuff.

Seconded.

While I feel "amazing" is a stretch, it does make for quick, interesting bathroom reading.

I'll also put another vote in for "The Selfish Gene"

"Surely You're Joking Mr. Feynman' is a truly excellent collection of anecdotes from the physicist Richard Feynman's life. They are both humorous and somewhat awe inspiring. Richard Feynman is Pimp. I've never met anyone who has read this book and didn't love it.

Into Thin Air, Devil in the White City are both great reads.

Confederates in the Attic; maybe a little too American, it's an account of present day Civil War reenactors. Hilarious stuff there.

Memiors of a Geisha will be coming out as a movie soon, highly recommend it.

If you like true crime, Nick Pileggi wrote 'Casino' and 'Wiseguys' which is the basis for Goodfellas.

Guns, Germs, and Steel by Jared Diamond is one of my favorite non-fiction books.
The science is geared towards the layperson and once you get past him being impressed with himself it's a great read.

Good thing I checked replies before responding with this.

Another one is Godel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid which is a truly excellent book on incompleteness theory, self reference and artificial intelligence (from a theoretical perspective). Very math oriented but also has a lot of good stuff for non-math people, just a truly excellent book all around.

and i recommend "a brief history of nearly everything" by bill bryson.

it is a pretty sweet book where he explains in simple terms how we have come to learn everything it is we know about the world. pretty interesting and a good read.

OK.

Stuff I will definitely pick up

- Both of Feynman's books.
- Freakonomics
- Killing Pablo

Stuff I am interested in but will not get yet

- In Cold Blood
- Into Thin Air
