Default Re: Party Step Higher Question

I thought about this when they announced they were starting payouts at step 4.

Payouts at step 5 are as follows:

1st: $25000
2nd: $15000
3rd: $10000

At step 4, you can get 3500 for taking 3rd. So, if you get to top 3 at step 4 should you try to lose and take the $3500?

If you get to step 5, what is the expected amount you will win? Assuming you have a 10% chance of taking 1st, 10% for 2nd, and 10% for 3rd. (Although, I would think the percentages would be a little higher for good players.) With those chances, you should expect to win $5000 for every Step 5 you play (over time).

So, in the long run, it is better to take top 2 at step 4, but I can see how it would be hard to pass up the $3500.

Good luck.

Asked earlier..but no response.

I've won my way in to step 4; which pays 600-3500 for 7th thru 2nd I think and 1st goes on to step 5.

Step 5 looks like it only pays top three place. (25k-10k)
and 4-10 get nothing?

I'm wondering if that is correct. Cause if so; I might rather take a 2nd in a step 4 (for 3500) than get to step 5 where 7 of 10 make nothing.

Any help is appreciated.

This thread discussed this, I watched as a guy attempted to go out in 3rd in a step 4 - and failed .

OT: I bought into a level 1 higher step last week. I estimate I have been bouncing around for over 30 SnGs. I have about a 25% RoI in the 33s so it's cost me over $200, plus PP lost $90 in rake. I want to get out, but pride prevents me from losing on purpose.

Yeah but ok if you win the 25k, its hard to get it out of the account isnt it? Would take some contortions at least..

why? I have made cashouts almost that big before without a problem. You could get it sent to neteller then neteller to my neteller, something like that. Might take a few days but whatever.

thanks for the comments all.

i certainly agree that if faced with the opportunity; playing the step 5 is higher ev than 3500.

just saying it would be tough to pass on 3500 for a bigger chance

obviously it would involve a lot of trust, since they are not transferrable (as far as I know).

You would have to give your account info to someone else...and they would have to trust that the money is transferred.

I don't really know...I'm not sure I could play at my best in essentially a 5K sit and go.

I had never tried a step before..and was hot yesterday winning a 1, 2, and 3 all in a row. If I won a seat in a 5; and the seat was easily transferrable; I think it would be a no brainer (for me) to sell it for 4k-ish.

i've got my eye on a nice set of tin balls down at the mall...i can buy them for 250$, leaving me a tidy little profit and a reliable set of nuts.
