Re: Open Raise UTG (Poll)
The 40k are nearly all at 6-max. Im not disputing the small sample size at all. I'm just mentioning that in these hands it seems to work me, for whatever thats worth. It might work because of the tables I generally choose to play in, the cards that get flopped, the other hands I raise from that position, my table image, or even just running well with that hand. I cant say with any degree of certainty which or any of these things apply, and neither can anyone else.

40k divided by 6 = 6666 times hes been UTG in a 6max game (if he has 40k hands of 6max, but hes got alot of 5/4/3 handed im sure). [/ QUOTE ] this is wrong bc he has some hands at 4 and 5 handed. in 115k in my new database i have been utg close ro 10k. |

Re: Open Raise UTG (Poll)
My answers and some thoughts.
QTs - raise JTs - raise (not standard) T9s - fold (raise occasionally for shania) QJo - fold (raise 25 percent of the time. This is a decent opening hand in MP/CO though) KTo - fold A9o - fold ATs - raise A8s - raise A7s - fold (raise tighter games. I usually open this down to A5s in MP though) 66 - raise 55 - fold (raise 25-50 percent of the time) 77 - raise 44 - fold KJo - raise 27o - I would rather shania raise one of the hands listed, like T9s or 55. (Ditto. This hand is complete crap and will be folded on the flop most of the time. Id rather open the pot in CO or Button with it though) |

[/ QUOTE ] I'm pretty close to Oreo's standards here. Although i raise KTo and A9o about 35% of the time I'm guessing. Here's a semi-weird take that I'm willing to get blasted for: I've been experimenting with limping T9s down to 87s. T9s is a limp-or-raise for me these days. 98s is a limp-of-fold. I know the conventional thinking around here is that raise-or-fold is the way to play from UTG. But with these medium suited-connectors is limping really so terrible? Sample-size not big enough (and possibly never will be) to determine much based on my own win-rates here. Just thinking things through. One 'shania-like' aspect of it is that some 2+2 TAG's that i may be up against might immediately write me off as a weak player because limping UTG with ANYTHING has to automatically mean he can't be THAT good. Otherwise, I just think they are okay hands for limping UTG on 6-max (particularly on loose-passive tables of course). |

Re: Open Raise UTG (Poll)
i think adding some hands to your limping range from UTG is a very sensible play but i wouldnt be doing it always it should be game dependant. for instance if you look down at T9s and are playing in a game with alot of loose passive players then raising doesnt do much for you when you are going to get at least 1 coldcaller. limping makes alot of sense if a few people will limp behind you. if youre in a game where you are liable to get raised and reraised then folding is definitely much better unless youre correctly mixing in limpreraise strategies with AA type of hands.
youre right that limping has strong metagame considerations. players will automatically assume youre the suck if they dont have stats on you. |

Re: Open Raise UTG (Poll)
86% of you guys raise KJo UTG?
This one really surprised me. I don't think I've ever raised this UTG 6 or even 5 handed. It's just a tough hand to play OOP, especially when you miss. |

Re: Open Raise UTG (Poll)
I had trouble with 10/9s and 44. I raise each of those around 50% of the time I would say. I would say they are both generally folds though. All the others (except 27o) I am more then likely to raise.
I dont have a sample at all with only 418 instances of these hands UTG at a 6 person table at 10/20. This is over 60K hands. I can't imagine how long it would take to find out whats profitable UTG. |

Re: Open Raise UTG (Poll)
Nearly 2:1 raise:
QTs, JTs Nearly 1:2 fold: QJo, KTo, A9o This poll clearly shows how there will be great games for a long time to come. This may be a landmark moment for poker. A landmark post! Rejoice! |
