Default Hello/ something i just dont get.

First of all hi to everyone on the twoplustwo forums, i've been reading threads from the various topics in all the forums and have learnt a great deal from doing so, but I have never made a post before. But now i've plucked up the courage to make my mark and im hoping it won't seem too stupid.

Anyway, I've been playing Hold Em for about 7 months now and mainly play $10 10man sngs on Pacific, i would dabble in cash games but dont really have a big enough bankroll to cover the swings at the moment i think. However i have recently read some articles that say Omaha Hi/Lo is the most profitable form of poker because the players make so many mistakes, and so im very interested into taking it up and buying and studying Ray Zee's book etc. But the thing i dont get it is that surley most people playing omaha hi/lo online are going to be the people who have read the books and also know omaha to be the most profitable. And so this would kinda get rid of its profitability right? as tables would just contain solid players. Or am I wrong here? I cant think why gamblers would consider Omaha when Hold Em is supposed to be the Daddy of poker games. It seems like a game that only accomplished players would play. Someone enlighten me please?

Also which site do you reccomend for Omaha? Im thinking pacific would be ok because Casino On Net might attract a lot of gamblers. But they dont do Omaha tourneys. Any suggestions?

Anyway thanks, and apologies for the length of this post. I tend to get carried away.

Read Zee's book? A lot of the players are such magoos that they can't read the board, much less Zee's book.

Yeah, you'll run into a lot of sharks in O/8. At least, I do. It's getting that I see the same people everywhere I go.

On the other hand, a lot of people are there because they figure four cards gives them a better chance at winning, and that unlike Hold 'Em, there is a sort of second-place pot (the low half). So, the fish find a lot more hands they'd like to play, and even when they're getting half the pot or worse yet, quartered or hexed, they're still raking some chips, which probably feels a little better than getting totally skunked.

Where to play? Party seems to have the most games, but I ran into some insanely juicy play the other night on Paradise.

Jaffa,

It is true that Omaha is a profitable game, but I'm really not sure that it is any easier to make money at than any other poker game. It seems that HE and Stud players do quite well also.

The reason the Omaha games are so loose (at the lower levels at least) is because there are people just like you that play Hold Em and bring that aggressiveness to an Omaha game....but they don't take the time to look at 2 + 2 or read the books right away.

You asked about where to play. I play at Party and Ultimate Bet. I prefer UB, but there are so many more games at PP that it almost makes it impossible not to play there.

Good luck,

It is a really fun game...and you get twice as many pretty cards.

Yeah i see what you both mean. Good points. Well i've just ordered Zee's book and hope to start playing microlimit hi/lo soon once ive got a basic solid understanding of the game, then maybe hopefully move up to .50/1 limit someday. Cheers for the responses. I've never played anywhere other than Pacific but I think I should investigate Party as it definitely seems to be the place to play.

Im looking forward to the game, something other than hold em should do me good me-thinks. And yeah, more pretty cards = twice the fun!

I'm sure others will touch on how fish in O/8 are loose etc.

I don't think O/8 is any more profitable than any other game, the difference is that O/8 like any Hi/Lo limit game has less variance than Hi only poker.
