...I'd imagine Corporate will be apologetic and probably give you lifetime comps to try to keep you from making a stink about it. [/ QUOTE ] Hell yeah! Throw a bitch, get free chit! Go for it! If the situation was really as crazy as the OP said, it should be a cinch if you can get your hand written letter to the right set of eyes. al |

Re: Harrahs treated me like I\'m a potential terrorist tonight
[ QUOTE ]
That's pretty outrageous. Let us know what comes of it. I certainly don't intend to patronize Harrah's if they treat patrons like this, but I'd imagine Corporate will be apologetic and probably give you lifetime comps to try to keep you from making a stink about it. "This is their right as a private business" -- no, I'm pretty sure gaming is a public accomodation and falls under civil right law. I'm not a lawyer, etc. [/ QUOTE ] No gambling is not a pubulic accomodation, however a hotel is, and so are resturants, so its pretty confusing. Even if it was they can refuse him for other reasons. Once again we are all assumeing they tould him to leave caause hes a middle eastern looking, i highly doubt this is a standard that harrahs has, just one cause of mistaken idenity with a 86d player |

No gambling is not a pubulic accomodation, [/ QUOTE ] The casino itself, with its restaurants and shops, would certainly fall under the civil rights act. Are you saying that the gaming sections of the casino are exempt? Do you have a citation? I find this difficult to believe. And to the poster who keeps bringing up some state's right-to-refuse-service law....that is irrelevant. The federal law would trump it. The only issue is whether, under federal law, certain areas of the casino can discriminate because they are not considered public accomodations, unlike the restaurants and bars. |

Re: Harrahs treated me like I\'m a potential terrorist tonight
Answered my own question. You were wrong. I was right. I love it when that happens.
"We hasten to add that we do not suggest that our holding means that the casinos have carte blanche in dealing with their patrons and they do not suggest otherwise. For example, both federal and state discrimination laws would be implicated if casinos discriminated among their patrons on the basis of their inclusion in protected groups." Doug Grant, Inc. v. Greate Bay Casino Corp., 232 F.3d 173, at n.7 (3d Cir. 2000) |

Re: Harrahs treated me like I\'m a potential terrorist tonight
I'm the one who was refering to the Right to Rufuse Service Act, and my question to you is how is what the casino has done qualify as discrimination under the rights NV's Act grants.
If they can't utilize the Act, which allows them to refuse action to any patron for any reason, because of Federal Law, then why have it. More to the point, how do we know that they barred him for any illegal reason. They could've thought he looked like someone in the Griffin Book, and if so wouldn't need to explain it to him, all that's needed is an explaination that they don't want him on the property. I'm not professing to know any of the answers to the above, and as you seem to have more legal training, or at least more interest in legal research, than I do, hopefully you can get me some of these answers. Re: Harrahs treated me like I\'m a potential terrorist tonight
if this happened as you said, you should contact an attorney. harrah's doesn't have the right to keep you out because of race or appearance.
but something tells me there is more to this than you are telling us. |

Re: snakehead
Yes.....I cant see Harrahs throwing him out because of his skin color. Some off there best customers are of Middle Eastern decent. I belive something else happened, ex. did not get on list and just sat a table or told the floor to F off I dont wait on list etc.
But if what he said is true the ACLU would love to here about it and he could have just hit the JACKPOT. |
