I think once you get past ugly or plain, you start getting into things that are hard to measure and depend a lot on personal taste, too. Of course it's not relevant for slagging random women on the Internet. As somebody else mentions, there's always an implicit comparison to other hot chicks - we're not talking about relative to the population at large. I think that's most of it, but the whole thing is still pretty ridiculous.

I think a 4 point scale would be ideal, though. There is a relatively strong case to be made for [censored] a 50th percentile girl while I don't think that's the case for a 33rd percentile girl.
