Default Slowdown or keep going?

I don't remember MP3s stats but I think CO was like a 40/5/<1 type of player. I think I might be a pussy...

I think I put in one more raise before I say 87 is likely enough to stop raising.

i think the 9 combos of 55/66/99 (ignoring T9) are more likely than the 16 of 87 because of his vpip and the fact that he coldcalled a raise preflop. so yeah, raise once more. if he were a 60+% guy, i'd play as you did. if he were a 20% guy, i'd never stop.

*grunch*

Since CO was williing to cap the turn I would probably just call on the river as well (Although I kick myself in the nuts when he doesn't show 87[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]). Let him keep playing with those hands and he will eventually give back your money (assuming he won!).

OP-

Sorry for the hijack!

Miles-

You rock! I have to start thinking more in these terms. I am a math simpleton, alhtough I understand what you are saying here of course. Where (if anywhere) are combinations concepts discussed book-wise. I haven't seen them yet (I have not read more advanced than SSHE).

It's in HPFAP for sure. I thought it was in SSH, but I guess I'm wrong. It's also all over this board, so keep looking, and feel free to take as stab at listing out ranges like this whenever appropriate.

I'd raise/call. He might have a straight, could have caught his set, but I think you're good here alot of the time. I'd hate calling the river 3-bet, but I'd do it. A good portion of the time he either has an over pair (on the turn) or maybe a flush draw (though his AF would argue otherwise). Raise for value, then call a reraise.

Would a 40% VP$IP cc a open-pfr with 78?

He's probably got a lower set, but I wouldn't cap the river (raise and call is good).

I think HPFAP mentions this sort of thing, but I suspect it's done in detail in one of Malmouth's Poker Essays. By the way, you should have *some* intutition on this as it's a basic hand-reading situation. A very loose player is more likely to have coldcalled 87 than a medium-tight player, and a decent-tight player certainly would not have 87. This is often all you need.
