Against regular opponents you certainly must change up sometimes. So I can't argue with your raise for that reason. In general, though, I think just calling should be the default play.

Yep. lstreams reasoning sounds fine, but it should be noted that you can always justify making a wild play with "i was mixing up my play..."

Also, I'd like to note that I likely raise 5th cause i'm an action junkie.

I'm going to go with Sara having pocket Aces that rivered Aces-full

It may not be real likely, but I'll look like a genius if I happen to be right.

she would have to be mixing up her play to not complete if she had AA9.

7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

is definetly possible.

But I'm not sure about folding an A high 3 flush on 3rd. What about AJ9ddd?

One more thing that I find important to remember is that your solid opponents know you need to have a hand to give action. They are very likely to correctly assess the relative value of their hand vs. yours. So it's unlikely she raised the river with less than an A high flush, for example. Also very unlikely she called all the early action without a hand that had the potential to beat queens up. I think a flush draw with the Ad makes a lot of sense. Of course a slow-played monster like a roll up is always possible, but later cards show that is NOT what she had. Would she play pocket aces this way? I would not. 789d that got trapped in is possible, although this is actualy a worse holding in this spot because it makes underpairs. I'll generally value bet very little against solid opponents unless my hand is stronger than what a thinking opponent would reasonably put me on. Whereas against many other players, you can bet much more relentlessly, because they're much more focused on what they have than on what you have.

Default Result

I think Jon was quickest to the correct conclusion here. Sara won the hand with an ace high flush. I think she started with Ad and 5d.

I remember this hand well because I limped and i wasn't fond of calling almost two bets cold on third street. I was thinking jeesh, there is one diamond out but my ace could still be live. Okay lets go for it.

I was relieved when lstream didn't reraise third, making me feel more likely that my ace was live as he would have rereaised with pocket aces or kings.

Then, I get to the four flush on the next street. Yipee! Odds to the river, unless the board gets really crappy. I decide to then just call on fourth because I want to bring lstream into the pot and not isolate. Not really sure if he has jacks, which he might just fold if I raise at this point. But now, Lstream raises and think hmmm...(he must have a four flush - lets just hope it's not ace high with a better kicker.) Then the other guy raises.

Well rather than capping it here, I decide to call for deception. If Istream does in fact have the four flush, he is going to cap it for me and I get the value I need as the money favorite on fourth if ace high is the best draw. And the other guy has a loan pair. Also, he should be wondering what I have at this point that I would call all these bets and should be concerned.

Well from fifth on I am pretty certain he has a four flush (didn't know about the set with it on 6th) and I make the decision that if I make the flush on the river, I have to raise for value.

Sorry Lsteam. Never fun when we tangle. You had a quality hand with a great redraw to beat my ace high flush draw.

I am in St. Louis today and actually am going to the casino now to play live stud... Hope they have a big game. Can't get through on the phone...haven't been in a casino in a year and a half since I moved to Omaha, Nebraska. Hope I don't forget that I am not in front of my computer and talk about my hands and call people idiots!

See ya.
