Default Heisman watch...

A bud and me were yappin' the other day. We can't think of anyone else but Bush at this point. He's just awesome. Even though I take some credit away given the team he's on, I'm still not sure anyone else is close.

But I also haven't watched everyone. So...

Who else would be in the running?

QB from Texas maybe? Seems the dropoff is pretty quick.

Bush is clearly the best player in the ranks of college football. He's a bit hampered, statistically speaking, by the presence of Lendale White.

Laurence Maroney has to be considered a serious challenger. Cody Hodges of Texas Tech is a system player , but is putting up monster numbers and they are undefeated. Well, until this week. I'd guess Leinart will still get his votes too.

Other players that have to be at least mentioned:

Vince Young, QB for Texas
Maroney, RB for Minnesota
Calhoun, RB for Wisconsin

and of course Leinart's always been the favorite. I was just thinking about this last night and I know there was one or two other players I was thinking about, but for whatever reason I can't think straight right now.

Unless USC loses out, Leinart will win the Heisman, and it's not even close. CFB has been dying (at least it seems in the reporting world) for a two time Heisman winner, especially since Archie won his 2nd and probably shouldn't have been in the top 5 in voting that year. White won it as a junior, and probably would have won it again last year had this even BETTER junior came along named Leinart. Young or Bush may be the better picks, but Leinart is definately the sexiest choice out there.

It's not even close right now imo, Bush is a clear favorite.

*sigh* There are still 1/2 a season left to play, so obviously anything can happen.

Since 2000, only one position has won the Heisman, and before that, it was a 2k yard rusher, and an 1.85k yd rusher. Bush isn't going to get near thos numbers.

Unless Maroney or someone else has a record-breaking year, Bush, Leinart, and Young are the only ones with a shot. Maybe Marcus Vick if USC loses. It's Bush's to lose at this point, IMO, and I think Young is ahead of Leinart.

Seems to me that Bush and Leinart (not to mention LenDale White) being on the same team will hurt their individual chances at this award.

Therefore, Vince Young will take it.
