Default Started PLO8 tonight ...

Had no choice, there was bonus money needed to clear, and the only tables with a big enough pot were the $100 NL and PLO8.

Had a good old time. Actually, PLO8 isn't as scary as I thought it might be. I kept reading about 3/4-ing and free-rolling, etc ... thinking I would get steamrolled the moment I sat down.

Not true, I just played my regular tight strategy from Limit, and Potted the bet when I had the nuts. Probably horrendous play ... however, my opposition at these levels is not too stiff.

In any event, I rather like the game. Anybody have a Buzz-like cliff note strategy for PLO8?

Or do I have to make one, ha!

Cheers!
Zim

Whenever I play at the tables I put a "+" next to each player with over double the buyin and a "-" next to each player with half a buyin or less. After a few weeks the plusses and minuses start to add up (no pun intended) and you get to see roughly who is winning and who isn't.

Interesting strategy. Pokertracker would work just as well but since I don't have it, I think I'll try your strategy.

I've never used pokertracker or any tracking software in my life. If you have brains it's by no means essential. People put too much faith in software to assist their game and actually forget how much they suck and that's why they really lose.

Don't worry. I'm completely aware of how much I suck.

Ribbo,

You rock. I generally try to jot down something about some of the players, but your advice is far more efficient and simpler than anything I've done in the past.

Got creamed last night after a second nut flush on a hi only board did me in. Ace and King were out ... I figured I'd be safe with my Jack ... nope.

Great sadness, but I suppose far more than $30 has been lost in such situations in the past, so I shouldn't whimper.

I also don't have PT, I know it has a cult like following on twoplustwo ... but for whatever reason, I never really took to it.

Thanks again.

Best,
Zim

(PS I seem to be afflicted by some sort of Omaha obsession lately ... I never played PLO (hi) before, yet I find myself becoming interested in it as well. Odd. Would you say there's as much money to be made at it as there is at Hi-Lo? There appears to be a few more games available, and at least one writer claims its one of the most profitable games online.)
