Shall do Al! I suggest a FEW beer and then the Omaha hi/lo for giggles. If we're really in the mood, 1-2 NL would be fun. My "fuel to the fire" move was ordering a JD straight up with a beer chaser right after the gaggle of crabbies were ranting about all of the "young drunks" that ruin their game. I had put one person on tilt before but never four at a time. Awesome!

The autoshufflers speed up the game and eliminate most of the advantage a counter would have.

[/ QUOTE ]

i think your confusing autoshufflers with continous shuffling machines (CSMs).... autoshufflers actually incr a counter's hourly rate while CSMs are just trash

Card-counting aside, it's nickel-diming the game to death. The dealer hitting soft 17 is another crappy rule. I guess an owner can do whatever it wishes, but if I feel like taking a break and playing BJ for a while it would be nice not to have to go across the street to have to shave a quarter or half a point off the house edge. The house still has the best of it, so it just seems piggish. I would be interested in knowing the net pickup on using constant shufflers versus six deck shoes. Assuming the pit crew could detect a big bet variance on mid-shoe entry and therefore reduce the risk of getting hit by a counting crew, I doubt the loss of business from all the blackjack players who don't like the shufflers would be offset by those who don't care. But I could be wrong.

[/ QUOTE ]

The casino isn't in it to give you a fair game. Even with the things you mention, it's a better bet than any in the house. If you are so price sensitive that you go across the street, then you aren't their type of customer. They build the super-nice facilities so they don't have to compete based on price.

I mean, why *wouldn't* the casino go to shufflers and bad rules in light of what you are suggesting about how atrocious the players' play has become?

Excellent point, Clarkmeister... I suppose one concern about the casinos' attitude in this respect is "will the interest hold up"? Right now Vegas is booming, but will these (marginally) anti-consumer policies stand up if and when things slow down, and the supply of tourist dollars shrinks? I'd imagine there has to be some point on the curve when it becomes in a casino's best interest to offer better bets than the guy across the street.

I'm definitely going to have to pull this move while out in Vegas next week. Anything that chases the nits, rocks, and nut peddlers off is a good thing in my book. God I hate playing with those guys, and they SMELL so BAD. I guess as an alternate I could tell them I work for the federal government, and I'm definitely going to take away their social security... per Bush's plan. That ought to get 'em fired up (even if it isn't true).

It pertains to slots, but here's an interesting tidbit related to consumer price sensitivity. The most popular slot machines right now BY FAR are video reel machines that hold 10-15%. There are lower hold machines all over every casino right now, including video poker machines that only hold 2-3% yet casino's can't get enough of the 15% video reel machines on the floor to keep up with demand.

The vast majority of gambling consumers are totally insensitive to price.

would you say there were any differences between the $15-30 at Bellagio and Wynn? If so, what were they.

[/ QUOTE ]

Wynn was a little easier with more amateur participation. I did four sessions at each, longest about 8 hours. It is quite possible that when you go, the opposite will be true because the locals travel to the action. It's really a coin toss but the girl with the spectacular upper regions works at Bellagio. If you play Bellagio and you get that waitress you can skip the Grand Canyon tour.

I absolutely agree. It's what I would do. I just don't like it.

My apologies for using autoshufflers when I meant CSM's.
