"Don't walk the streets at night by yourself. You won't get mugged this way."

This is good advice. There is no reason to be on the land side of the casinos on foot after dark unless you know exactly where you are going, and even then it's often a dumb idea.

[ QUOTE ]
One nite leaving there around 3 A.M. on the long walk from the poker room past the valet area to Pacific ave to catch a Jitney some drunk bum started harrasing me asking me for money. when I refused he started following me and cursing at me...I walked to the other side of the alley and turned around and went back into the casino for a bit b4 heasding out about a half hour later.

It was kind of scary becausde there was NO ONE around if this guy decided to attack me or something... I've walked through NYC and Paterson late at nite and not been as scared as I was by this experience

I have played at the Taj 1/2 NL a bunch of times. Whenever I have 1k+ on the table and I go to the bathroom or go have a smoke I simply ask for one of those plastic boxes to put over my chips. Someone usually makes a joke about it and I comment on how when I come back I want to still have them covered and thats the end of it, problem solved.

The concerns about someone sneaking into a hotel room and bums on the street are not problems with the Taj but are problems with Atlantic City, that is dirty, sketchy town and there are a lot of degenerates hanging around.

Of the 3 cities listed above I think that I would feel the most comfortable at 2am in NYC, then Patterson, then AC. For Patterson to be safer than AC says a lot...

They did have a problem with people getting robbed in the far restroom next to the event center late at night, but I havent heard of one in a couple of months. My advice if you're at the Taj late night, use the bathroom around the corner from the race book.

Or by the newstand with the nice shoeshine guy! The thing is, whether it's in AC, LA, Vegas or anywhere else...people need to use common sense. Carrying tons of cash? Don't use the restroom close to the door. Don't selfpark. Don't go out in the middle of the nights on the streets to wait for a jitney so you can save $8. Don't leave a wad of $100 bills on the table when you grab a smoke so someone can easily grab it and be out the door. It's public gambling not the opera. While I've never had problems in AC (beyond people hitting you up for loans ugh), you do have to have common sense.

In the spirit of the season:

"You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy."

Actually, I've done very well at the Taj, so I can't complain.

An amusing story.

I was at a stud game one time when a player was picked up by the floor. We described the player to the floor as a yound asian person. The floor took the chips and put them in their safe keeping.

The guy returns and wants his chips. Someone had apparently gone to the front desk, said that he had been picked up from the table, identified the table number and approx chip count. The desk handed the money over. It was not the actual player. Turned out they handed the money to a non-asian guy too! Taj made good to the player.

On the other hand, I have left chips on the table many times and have never had any issues nor any worries. I take the bills and odd big chips off. Of course I never leave for very long either. Dinner is always a pickup.

I always valet park (at all casinos, incl the Borg and the Trop) and avoid going out on the streets at night. If I do I carry only a few dollars, that I would be happy to hand over if someone tries a mugging. For any one staying at one of the flea bag motels in AC, I suggest getting a cash box at the cage and leaving all money in there.
