that is incorrect, and your thinking is highly counter-intuitive EV wise.....take the following example....

and now remember, you are getting over 3 to 1 on your money.....would you take 3 to 1 on a coinflip?....buying in short at big games has always been a very VERY profitable strategy when done correctly....

WHAT?! This sounds like an excellent place to buy for 500 and take a shot. I would be much more afraid of getting zero action because everyone knows the little kid with 500 bucks has AA.

OK, I've tried this strategy when I had bankroll issues and if you don't get hit with the deck it doesn't work. You're only going to see AA or KK once every 200 hands, if you limit yourself to a small preflop range you could possibly get blinded out in a cashgame.

As far as the %'s go, I stand corrected.

I will second that. Very true. Very true almost everywhere, including Vegas.

Also...I see no problem with a big buy-in at the uncapped games. I know why Negreanu does it. It works. A big stack is something to contend with plus it gives you room to change up your game quite a bit. It think it's a good idea. Playing with a fort-o-chips also lets me isloate those weak-ass Strawberry Shortstacks who use the words "all-in" everytime they want to gamble. Picking off $200 -$400 pots two out of every three times is a real joy. I especially love the guys whose sunglasses cost more than their buy-in. Lovely.

All this debate about short stack buy in has got me thinking.

I'm going to try this out today here in LA and post a little summary later.

The thing with 5/10 is that, despite the occasional exceptions, you won’t win with simple tight straightforward play. If you’ve been playing tight and then push your $500 stack after a raise and a re-raise, nearly everyone will (correctly) put you on QQ+. You need to do more than wait for good hands and then value bet them against donks; unlike 1/2 and many 2/5’s.
