Default Hollywood - Aurora, IL

Anyone ever been here before? Might go Thursday or Friday and wondering if it's worth the hour trip from where I'm staying. Looking for maybe a 3/6 or 5/10 limit game.

I would probably be playing during the day (12pm - 6pm)

I played there for the first time a few months ago. $5/10 is the lowest limit they have and maybe they had like 3 limit tables and a few no-limit tables going on at the time. I waited a while before my name was called.
Play wasn't spectacular but the rake was atrocious -- like $6 max or something and they had no comps. Poker room is nice enough- has these huge card movie posters (but no "Rounders!").
I would say it's so-so and go only if you're itching to play. I would not recommend the poker room at Argosy's Empress in Joliet, Ill. It is only open during certain times and is pretty small -- and very smoky.
In the Chicago area, I'd only really return to Resorts in East Chicago, Ind. and the nearby Trump Casino.

I agree that Hollywood is pretty sucky. I've seen the lists in the 3 hour+ range on a Friday night. No call-aheads either.

The one time I played there they only have 3 tables in action. There were at least 3 tables sitting empty with that huge list. Illinois has a limit on the number of gaming positions that can be occupied at one time. Each poker table represents 10 slot machines. So, you get the picture.

If you're east of Aurora, go to Gary. Trump and Resorts are better.

Regards,

T

Thanks. I'll actually be an hour west, so maybe I'll just bring my laptop.

O.K. Arrive a little before noon and you should get into a 5/10 game, without a long wait. The rake is too high. But, you are just visiting and would spend a lot more on gas (transportation, etc) and HORRIFIC TRAFFIC, trying to get to Indiana (where you would most likely get lost, trying to find Trump's or Resorts). The games at Trump's and Resorts a much tougher than the 5/10 at Hollywood Aurora. Besides, there are long lists at those joints too, if you get there at the wrong time. I've been there a couple of times, my sister-in-law lives near there.

I played the 10/20 and thought it was juicy. Many players I sat with were loose/weak. There are some decent players, but they are outnumbered by the fish. If you do go, play tight/aggressive and don't worry about playing too fancy and you should easily average 2BB/hour (if not more).
