Default A 8 o BB hand

OK were 4 handed don't have stats on anyone.
I have A 8 off in BB, 1 fold and then button raises, the small blind folds, and I contemplate three betting but decide to call.

Flop comes: J 10 5 rainbow

I check, he bets, I fold. I was wondering whats the best way to play this because I suck. I think 3-betting preflop and then leading any flop is my best option but I'm confused in this situation and need some help.

A8o is pretty strong 4 handed. I'd almost always 3bet PF unless I wanted to mix up for wahtever reason. You gave up too quickly here.

Usually, I would 3-bet preflop versus the blind steal and then lead.

After calling preflop, though, I think check-folding on that flop is all right. The board is a bad one for your hand.
