Default Poker Rate at the Commerce???

Ok, so how do you get it?

I called them last night, and they said that there is a poker rate available, but couldn't tell me how much it was. They said it was at the discretion of the shift supervisor.

Can anyone lead me in the right direction on this one?

Joe

When I was there, I stayed on a Friday and Saturday and the rack rate was $99. I asked for and got the poker rate of $89 (not a huge savings, but a savings nonetheless). They just gave it to me, but they probably saw me playing for two days straight (I was playing 20-40 the whole time...not sure if mid limits is a requirement or not).

I think it might've gone up recently - I play in the big room, and got a rate of $99 a few weeks back, which I assumed was the best rate as I play there all the time - whereas it was 89 in October. Most of the floorpeople will hook you up if you've been playing for a while. It's not hard to get the rate.

You are right, it is not. I have not seen the rooms so i dont know if they are nice, but the surrounding area is pretty crappy. I think the best reason to stay there would be you dont want to drive home at 7am (2 hours of traffic) just so you can take a nap and drive back (2 more hours of traffic) and play some more poker.
As for a tourist, if you had a rental car, itd be a lot cheaper to stay at the motel 6 that is just a few minutes away by freeway and advertises $49 a night or something like that.

I'm a big fan of being able to stay where I play. Something about getting off the elevator and going to the poker room rather than parking the car. I can park the car at Foxwoods, and its alot closer.

As for the rack rate, they quoted me $109/night. The hotel is a Crowne Plaza, so it can't be that bad.

Regardless of the area, I'm sure the Crowne Plaza is just fine, as is the Wyndam down the street. I've only heard good things from the circuit players about both places. Heck, I even heard the Value Inn is fine, so we booked there for $45 per night, because they accept pets.

Last time we stayed at a place in Alhambra. This one costs about the same, but it right down the street (catty corner) from Commerce. See you at the LAPC, if that is when you'll be there!

I haven't seen the rooms yet, but the hotel first and second floor are nice an clean. I can't imagine that the rooms are anything but nice. The surrounding area is a combination of industrial/blue collar residential. I really wouldn't walk around ouside the casino at night....but knowing the crime in LA, there is not a lot of places where I would walk around by myself at night. If you want to go anywhere besides the casino, you need a car.

And before anyone goes off the deep end saying the entire neighborhood is crap, one set of my grandparents lived in south Montebello until they passed away a few years ago and my other grandmother lived in East LA until a few years ago. The neighborhoods are not some horrible area where bullets are whizing by your head. You do have to constantly be aware of your surroundings, but going to a restaurant(and there are some places with very tasty ethnic food) or the store in these areas is not a big deal.
