Default Did I play this correctly

In a home game, .50/1 NL - $20 INITIAL BUY-IN

3 hands in

Hero - sb - qxqs
villain - late position pre-flop raise of $2 (I put him on Ax)

equal stacks

I call raise.

Flop - 3 ts 8s

I bet pot $7

Villain calls quickly

TURN BRINGS A

I check w/ the intent to go over the top if he bet.

He checks.

River is a Js. I go All-in.

He calls, takes down the pot.

I guess I should have made a strong bet on the turn, but I doubt he could have gotten away from his ace.

I would re-raise the flop.

I'm fine with the flop bet.

I would bet the turn and if he calls I would check-fold the river. If he re-raises fold.

The river push is bad.

If you put him on Ax, why play this hand this way?

I was trying to represent a made flush, but in reality, I probably misplayed pre-flop and fell in love w/ my pockets. Should have accepted defeat once the A spiked, I suspect. The mistake is in letting him see it to start with, I guess...and I just multiplied the mistake on the river.

If you really hit your flush, would you go all in on the river and scare the other guy off? I think this is where he saw through you. If you check raised the river, you might make him think.

In a cash game I probably would. He's either got top pair or two pair, or possibly (although unlikely) a set with half of his money already in the pot. I doubt he'll release his hand here, which he didn't. Although in this hand I wouldn't go all-in on the river for an obvious reason (the A) I'd have made a strong reraise preflop with QQ, and then bet strong from there on the flop.

Good luck,
Matt

Reraise to 6 or 7 to go preflop. Bet all in on flop (I'm assuming you will have around 13 left).

Win or lose (if he calls), you get all your money in with the best hand.
