Default Any word on the MGM Grand?

didn't run a search, so I appologize if this has already been discussed...

Anyway, I'm heading out to Vegas for August 7th through 12th and I'll be staying at the MGM Grand. Any word on the new cardroom there? Tournies? Good Comps? Things to look out for?

I heard the new cardroom is amazing...

I really enjoyed the room back in April, very well run and nice and clean.

For the best info go to : http://www.allvegaspoker.com/room_26.html

I don't know if I'd say "amazing" but it is a very nice room. The action tends to be great and the room is pleasing in spaciousness and light and all the other little details. When a big group of poker playing friends and I had them spread us a private table up in the balcony, they took very good care of us.

look out for an old dealer named robert. he was an ass.

everyone and everything else is sweet. you'll agree when you get there.

comps is $1/hr i think. just ask at the podium, they'll print you a comp card right then and there.

i'm not sure if the tournament info in that link is completely accurate. i don't remember there being a $60 buy-in; i thought it was $100ish. and i know they had an evening one too, at 6pm.

and of course, one of the many things that makes them awesome is that they will attempt to spread any game you ask for if there is enough interest, as has just been discussed in my thread about HORSE

The 11am tournament runs Monday-Thursday...$65 buy-in. The evening tournament is $125, and is run Sunday-Thursday at 6:00pm. Morning tournament is ALWAYS full, so get there early (9-ish) if you want to get in and NOT be on the alternates list. You will find the room to be a lot quieter on the weekdays (the bar next door doesn't get as loud as it does on the weekend). Things to watch out for: the $4-8 game is pretty wild. Expect to take some expensive bad beats once in a while. (Although I play $4-8 in a lot of casinos...pretty wild everywhere). Rumor has it that the $2-4 game might be eliminated, although I stress its a RUMOR. Sign up for a card and start using it right away...the comps are $1 per hour you play, so if you're going to be playing there most of the time, you will want every dollar to go onto your card. You can use the comps at any restaurant in the casino. Another thing to look for: faster drink service on the weekdays. Less games open = quicker service. Not sure if we have a room rate available yet for poker players...call and ask for the pokerroom and see if there is anything they do... Otherwise, enjoy your trip, and hopefully you will enjoy the room like so many others have.

Yes. Except the overly repetitive music at Centrifuge (the bar adjacent to the poker room). They have a playlist of maybe 10 songs, and they just repeat. After playing there for a few days in June, I had memorized the rotation. Particularly the one song that begins "3...2...1... reeeee-miiiiiixxxx. I WANNA ROCK!..." iPods are your friend at the MGM Grand.

And well worth your while. Free lunch every day if you're putting in decent sessions. You'll also get pretty good e-mail offers from MGM after you return if you get a club card.

I didn't play the tournaments, but I did notice that they often went to 30 alternates or more. The players coming in as alternates were getting a horrible deal, since their starting stack was much less compared to the blinds than other players.

3/6 HORSE at MGM is my new 2nd favorite game in town. 6/12 at the Mirage reigns supreme. Can you say retarded opponents?

Might want to stay out of the MGM nightlyraver...the dealers aren't too fond of stiffs... There is an internet cafe on Harmon and Las Vegas Blvd...not too sure if they'll let you download Party Poker or not...

Does this imply that iPods are allowed at the tables... I really don't want to be the dick with an iPod at the table, but I generally play so few hands it might be useful...

I do hear they have Red Bull, so if the service is as good as advertised, I'll be easy to find... look for the person at the tables knocking back the RB and vodkas with an iPod.

Yes, that was what many sites have stated. I think that's the best reason to choose MGM at lowest limits (if you really are looking for $2-4..) Maybe IP has better comps and free food, but my memories of the IP room are all mediocre.

Yes, the current deal I've seen is $59 a night for Su-Th. Cheapest offer I've seen on the strip this year since Luxor ran a $39 I believe...
