Default You asked for it...

Here's a hand from a recovering lurker/6max beginner:

SB is loose, but not a donk. MP is unknown. I don't like folding for one bet, but I don't see how I can be ahead of both of these guys.

PokerStars 2/4 Hold'em (6 handed) converter

Preflop: Hero is UTG with T[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], T[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img].
<font color="#CC3333">Hero raises</font>, MP calls, <font color="#666666">2 folds</font>, <font color="#CC3333">SB 3-bets</font>, <font color="#666666">1 fold</font>, Hero calls, MP calls.

Flop: (10 SB) 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 3[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(3 players)</font>
<font color="#CC3333">SB bets</font>, <font color="#CC3333">Hero raises</font>, MP calls, <font color="#CC3333">SB 3-bets</font>, Hero folds

Standard?

Bad flop fold. You have the odds to peel and try and hit your set on the turn. If the pot was smaller then your fold is OK.

Hmm...I'm getting 16:1 immediately and almost certainly 17:1 when MP calls. Implied odds are probably large. What is your threshold for calling if you're only giving yourself 2 outs?

if the board wasn't so dry this would be an easy peal. as it stands, its really close

Aside from the implied odds from hitting a set on the turn, I see 3 arguments in favor of calling the flop 3 bet:

1. A 9 or J will give you odds to call a turn bet.
2. A few percent of the time SB will check the turn.
3. You don't want to people to view you as too weak and be constantly taking shots at you on the flop. This is because against a player like you who can fold pairs, people do not bluff enough.

I think these add up to a pretty clear peel on the flop.

Edited for grammar.

This is my favorite argument for calling, but I've been making some bad calls with this reasoning and have been trying to stop. Maybe I took it too far this time.

Good point, but I still like this argument only because it's close anyway.
