CA - great action and an awesome place to live, likely some good culinary schools, SUPER high cost of living...
AC - good action but a HORRIBLE place to live, likely no good culinary schools, pretty low cost of living (slums!)
Tunica - good action but who the hell wants to live there, no idea about culinary schools, low cost of living (hickville miss)
Vegas - great action and incredible place to live, several VERY good culinary schools as well as one of the best hotel/restaurant mng schools (unlv), great job opportunities when you get out of school, decent cost of living but going up

like i said before, VEGAS!

Try Philadelphia. We have the Restaurant School, Philly has world class restaurants. It's only 1.5 hours from AC by train or driving. Close enough to AC to play casino poker, but not so easy as going down the street so it will give you some discipline. Decent cost of living, compared to the other Northeast Corridor cities (DC, NYC, Boston). I love it here.

Take this for what it's worth because I'm also far from the best player ever, but your goal seems slightly unrealistic if you're going to be a full time student. At 1 BB winnings per hour (a respectable winrate) that would mean 50 hours of play per week to average $500. If you win 1.5 BB/hr (closer to the upper limit against half decent opposition) then that's still 33 hours per week. Do you really want to spend that much time in the casino during school?

Also are you prepared to deal with several losing weeks in a row where you work many hours with nothing to show for it? Maybe some sort of part time job with a predictable salary would be better with a bit of poker on the side. I also think it would be easier to earn $2K per month playing small stakes online and learning to bonus whore.

Anyways, I've played about 20 times live at 5-10 (about 160 hours total) and I'm up almost $3K but this was based mainly on two huge sessions and a bunch of close to break even ones. I would hate to have to rely on playing at these stakes for money that I needed. I could easily be down a grand after that much playing (I would have cut myself off if I lost more than that).

Providence you got Johnson and Whales University and you are about 45 to an hour from Foxwoods. Very fishy games and far enough away to keep you in check.

OP said he's from Chicago--if you've ever driven in Chicagoland, 45 minutes can be the time required to get you from one side of a suburb to another. Probably not far enough away to keep out of trouble.

From the OP's comments, he may have some issues w/ self control. Don't know if Vegas is the best for him (gambling, drugs, sluts fairly easy to come by there). OP said father wants him to goto 4 year school--does he?

Is this true? I've never been there, but everyone I've talked to who has, has said the games are WAY tougher that Vegas games.
