Default Would a poker robot ever be able to compete against top players?

Some friends and I were discussing the advancements of computer technology and were wondering if a computer would ever be able to "outsmart" top poker players. I would like to see some reasons for and against this. Thanks.

Heads up at limit poker they can right now as far as I know.
