While the foam likely didnt do any damage, the idiots at NASA still sent up a shuttle with a fatal and deadly flaw that they knew existed and that they didnt fix.

[/ QUOTE ]

do you really think the current foam issue is the same problem that caused the columbia disaster? wow

Yes, and they should have since the '86 disaster.

Do you believe that Man would get to the moon faster (or at all) if the project was carried out by private enterprise instead of a government agency such as NASA ?

[/ QUOTE ]

It depends. Is private enterprise doing this as contract work with the government paying for it? In that case, the answer is yes. Is private enterprise doing this as a fully independent project with no government funding? In that case, no, because there's no market incentive (yet) to just send some guy to the moon to plant a flag and hit a golf ball.

In order to get the program started it would have to have been funded by the government (not entirely, maybe like a subsadised space program giving them money as they acheive things) to get that intrest, but now I think there is enough intrest to let private companies use their own money, which many have and are doing currently.

Then, again, this would be a government program.

...Strange to have such a deafening silence form the resident fanatic and unquestioning proponents of turbo capitalists, when it comes to space exploration.

AS for the space shuttle, perhaps it is time to go back to the drawing board and design a new spaceship.

[/ QUOTE ]

They are, I believe it should launch in 2020.

as to the poster who stated that the missions have no scientific value whatsoever, do realize that they are doing experiments while up in space.

Haha wow now were getting people saying Bush told them to launch the shuttle.

[/ QUOTE ]

Well, in January 2004, he did call for the return of astronauts to the moon. [sarc]That's a great idea, and a good use of our tax dollars [/sarc]

Why doesn't he call for the return of our troops first!

Talk about jackasses....

There there wouldn't be much of an incentave for people to spend billions of dollars to explore space/ others planets etc. There is no market for it, so the goverment would have to subsidise it somewhat, but not pay for everything. This would be 100 times more cost effective then it is now.

Of course in a perfect world the govt wouldn't pay anything to a space program, but I do believe we will eventually have something militararly up in space in the next 50 years they should be a part of it because no one else would explore space, there isn't too much money.

Why do people randomly bring the war in. Yes lets leave Iraq now and let it be a chaotic state forever. Every politician believe that now that were they we should stay there till we finish the job. Your idea is so far to the extreme left.
