I guess I don’t understand your question, since the only way I justify calling with a worse hand involves the odds im getting. Maybe you have a problem with my stating, what is to you, obvious. I’m not looking for ethical reassurance from strangers on the internet. I just wanted to open up the discussion of players who don’t protect their hands. To correct you, I don’t think what I did was wrong. I’m sure you sit in particular seats in order to take advantage of certain player’s poor playing tendencies. You put the maniac on your left and the weak tight player on your right. My actions aside... I agree with you that I can improve my win rate by playing better poker (I will always try to improve), but I don’t think taking advantage of irresponsible players conflicts with that.

This isn't about poker, it's about a character flaw. Aquire yourself some decency and manners.

I don't know how old you are, but don't you think it's time to get some character? If the cashier at the grocery store gives you too much change, do you give it back? I bet you say, "Nope, it's their own fault for being so stupid." The fact that you even posted this question to begin with shows me that you have a little slice of you that knows what you did was wrong. Good. Go with that. You might look at others' hole cards all your playing life and never be caught, although you'd be one sorry individual if you could sleep at night. I know I've been harsh, but c'mon. You know better than that. Just do the right thing, man. Do the right thing. It'll gratify some, and surprise the rest.

I didn't read your entire post, because you ramble even more than I do. All posters thus far have missed the crux of the issue. The guy shows you his cards, and you use this information against him. It's his own damned fault for showing you his cards, so I don't have any particular problem with that, although I think it's nice to warn him at least once, and kind of slimy to pull your cap down and put on your shades. What makes all of this unethical, though, is that you can use this information against the other players, and they have no control over whether the other guy protects his hand or not. People are pretty good about protecting their hands in the games I play in, but I warn people every time they hold their cards so that I can see them. There was a time when I didn't do this, but I have seen the error of my ways.

The more live casino poker I play, the more I realize how low people can go when money is involved. In this situation I would let the gentleman know EVERY time I saw his cards and I would purposefully avert my eyes while he was checking them to avoid seeing them.
Knowing your opponents hole cards is not part of the game. This is one of many instances where I see how dirty and cheap people can be around a poker table, other examples... A gentleman at my table the other day was bragging about how he dragged a 1K pot when his opponent tabled the winner but one of the cards hit the muck...the floor was called and pushed him the pot. I told him I would have given the otehr guy the pot without question, since he had a winner. At the same game a few days before a young man got all in on the flop with 2 pair against his opponents TPTK. The bottom card on the board paired giving him a winner with aces up. He tabled his hand and the dealer incorrectly pushed the pot to the loser. The young man left and the person who had dragged the pot laughed and explained that he had seen that the other kid had a winner and was praying that nobody would notice. Again, I told him he should have shipped the pot since in hold'em the cards speak for themselves and it wasn't the player who had erred, but the dealer.

[/ QUOTE ] Do you correct people when they raise with K-4 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], or call a raise in the BB with Q-7? What if they cold call 3 bets with AQo? Part of the skill of the game, and ONE OF THE RULES, is that a player must protect his/her own cards. In fact since that is in the rulebook, one could argue that by flashing his cards he is cheating....... So would you please stop siding with this cheater!
