3 - 4 monitor setup

I'm sorry if this has been answered before. I couldn't find it in search.

Can you drive 4 monitors from one desktop comptuter? Do you need 2 video cards to do this? If not 4 monitors, how about 3?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
