Dumb Down Strategy 7-Stud

I won a Hold'em freeroll satelite into a 7 Card Stud tourney...

I'm not a stud player, and I'm wondering if there is a dumbed down strategy to play this game. It's a Limit -tourney, so I'm looking for pure survial techniques.

Starter cards:

Trips,
Pair of Aces,
Pair of Kings,
Pair of Queens,
Low Pair with Ace or King kicker,
Three card Straight Flush,
Three high cards (ten or above - also containing a two flush).

All the above should be played fast.

Watch other people's boards - see how they develop.
Keep track of how 'live' your hand is.

This is only basic stuff. Someone else should be able to add to it.

this is kind of stretching it for dumbed down strategy, but even more so than in holdem, hands depend on the number of players in. any pair is playable heads-up if you have an overcard to your opponent's door, but in a seven-way pot you don't want to be playing 22J when a ten has raised.

the other big thing you want to do is keep track of the upcards. don't play a pair if one of your pair cards is out, unless you have good reason to believe you presently have the best hand. and if a bunch (more than three) of the flush or straight cards you need are out, don't bother.

in a game where you're seeing lots of five-way pots on fourth street, virtually any three-straight or three-flush is playable as long as no more than two of the cards you need to catch are dead. it also becomes a lot more important to have other outs like a two-flush or two-straight with your pair.

One huge difference -- since the hands are independent, you need to play middling holdings with care. Whereas in hold-em youre two pair MIGHT be up against trips or a straight or flush, you can't "give" others those hands. But in stud, depending how the hand has played and the cards have fallen, you have to be quicker to get away from two pair or a live straight draw. Also, there's an extra round of betting and the bring is also proportionately less than the blind in he so if the game is passive it can be right to limp with small pairs and low flush draws hoping to hit perfect on fourth.

Just curious but were did you get 7-stud tourey entry playing hold em?

All these starters are nice but you don'get them too often.

I play .50/1.00 and 1.00/2.00 online.the players are extremely loose.

only playing the hands you recommend I think you would be broomcorn uncled out.

You supply the correct answer for the games you suggest.

However, Sarge85 wanted 'pure survival' stuff for a 7card stud tourney.

My recommendations, basic as they were, were aimed at that. In a tourney, you are not going to be playing marginal stuff, with the aim that Sarge85 has in mind. As for being anted out, I cannot say as Sarge85 does not state what the antes/blinds are.
