Default 88 in the SB getting cute

$1/$2 blind No Limit, local casino.

Game is pretty good interesting mix of tilted players and just wild younger kids and older guys that like to gamble. Few of the winners had just gotten up at this point. Normally I'm a more aggressive player but I think I've played about a hand per dealer this round.

All fold to the button who limps for $2. (Button is one of the looser players at the table and has caught a few times recently. He respects my raises but will still a call decent sized raise trying to hit with suited crap a fair amount of the time)

I look at 88 (suits unimportant) and glance to my left in the corner of my eye and see the big blind ready to shoot out $20 chips. This player had done this maybe the last 3 or 4 times it had been limped to him. So, I decide to just limp with the intention of popping him back. (even with just 88)

He makes it $20, Button folds, and I make it my last $55 and a few people almost fall out of their chair in surprise.....

Nice info on the reaching tell...seems like you will be quite far ahead almost all the time here. Although it is only for 20x bb and not that big a decision, people won't mess with your sb's lightly from then on.

I don't like this move.

you are saying BB will raise to $20 (10x BB is a big raise) either if he has a hand or with any 2 if limped to him.

If thats the case and you want to see a cheap flop, why not raise to like $6 with your 88 instead of limp, reraise all in?

You are not even repping AA/KK that well because I'm not sure most players would limp reraise in the SB with AA/KK. And you are short stacked which means the BB is even more likely to call your reraise. Hell, I know I would call you with QQ, JJ, TT.

You are giving this particular raiser way too much credit in this situation. This player has tossed in $20 with very little after a few limpers and picked up a few pots, I'm expected to fold here.. You're expecting too rational of play here from the foe.

I never said anything about a cheap flop.

ok, here is the deal. even lags get their hand sometimes.

also, given his propensity to open for $20, I doubt he has much trouble calling an additional $55. See, the irony is that the worse the player, the worse this move is for you.

with better players, you have folding equity. With worse players, you really don't have any folding equity which you want.

also, if you lose, are you goign to rebuy for a bigger stack and keep playing or are you going to quit?

Side note: If you think he might have just called a small raise if I knew he was going to bet already this might have been the case and was one of the reasons I'd like to explore this.

I see this particular player:
-calling my big bet with hands I beat (55,66,77) def
and maybe some bigger offsuit cards
-folding a vast majority of the time since his holdings would
be that bad
-not necessarily even calling my raise here but a small raise he could call. (what type of spot does this put is in against a crazy with 88 out of position... here)

Post flop this guy had been all over the place and i'm not sure you could take anything for a grain of sand he did. I saw this as my best opportunity to get the money in knowing I had an advantage against his hand range and a chance to win a decent sized pot right there.

I had the option to rebuy. I'm playing a lot lower then i can afford.. i haven't played nearly as much no limit as limit poker.

I realize a lag gets hand sometimes and I guess that was my concern sortof. To be honest I should have been more clear but I think this particularly player was more of tilted "decent" young kid that was just way out of line then a LAG that normally played that way. I think I definitely had fold equity

all I'm saying is once you completed and he bet $20, all in is the best move.

But perhaps instead of completing in the first place, you raising to $6 or $8 might have been the better move.

So do you want him to call your all in reraise or not?

you can't say that he'll both fold better hands and call with worse hands.

as long as this guy doesn't call quickly I don't think I care very much if he calls, but i can't say i'd ever not be totally unhappy to take it down there with 88.

and I did make it my last 55.... i was all in.
