I'm so pissed off at Empire right now!!!

Just got back from work and guess what I found? My older brother had gone to the mailbox to pick up the mail and in the mail for me is a goddamn magazine from Empirepoker.

Now I know that this is not a big issue to probably everyone here but for me it almost means the end of the world. For my family, gambling is the ULTIMATE SIN (I'm not joking either). I much rather be telling my family that I'm a drug dealer to explain the extra money that I'm making because at least they will be able to forgive me.

I know I'm an adult but it's not that easy for me. I posted my reasons in past threads why my family is against gambling (it involves my extended family, which led to broken families, domestic violence, bankrupcy, suicide etc....)
There is absolutely no point in trying to explain to them because they will never accept it. Those who understand what I'm going through will know what I mean. I'm so jealous of people who can be upfront with their families like it's an no issue, for my family I'm a gambling addict and will need to get help no matter what I say or how much money I make.

I'm so pissed that they sent me items in the mail without my consent. My brother now knows that I gamble online and if(when) he tells my family, I'm done for.

I wrote empire an email and I will be closing my account with them shortly, I'm so pissed right now. And no, I'm not overreacting. Sorry, had to vent.

sorry to hear, I'm glad I'm not alone in this and someone understands.

The sad part of all this is I've gone on an absolute tear these past couple of months. This month alone I'm up over $35K and that's only playing part time. I should be thrilled but all I could think about is how pissed off I am right now.

I'm sorry to hear about your problem, but yes you are over-reacting. You're blaming Empire for something that is YOUR fault.

Read #3... that's part of the agreement you agree to when you create an account. You have to explicitly tell them that you do not want your personal information used in mailing out of promotions and such from Empire. Do I feel bad for you? Yes because I had to go through some of the same stuff when my mother found out I play poker. This is a lesson though to make sure to read fine print in the future.

Your family would not believe that your name was not just on a mailing list? Why admit it? I get porn flyers in mail, but have never bought porn through the mail.

what a wonderful opportunity for you to be an adult and stand up to your family for what you want to do with your life. Now you no longer have to carry the burden of hiding and lying to your family.

Oh does the magazine say on the front cover dear online gambler thank you for choosing to gamble with us. Or could this just be another piece of junk mail. I got some mortage crap in the mail and I'm not secretely buying houses online

I understand your point. I did not write Empire an angry email. I did ask them to take me off the mailing list especially items sent to my home (as well as all the other sites that I play at). I play on several sites for years and have never been sent anything though my mail.
When I got the magazine, it was in a CLEAR white bag with Empirepoker.com prominently displayed. Shouldn't it be a little more discreet, I guess that would be too much to ask.

It's my own stupidity I guess. Anyways, I learned a good lesson. I'm still P'O ed. This has ruined my night and I will no longer be playing at empire.

i agree with both perspectives here.

1. Empire shouldn't be sending you unsolicited crap in the mail.
2. The player should KNOW that there is a good chance that they MIGHT send unsolicited crap in the mail. I would try using a fake address or something if I could if I were in a similar situation.
3. If not...you should do everything possible to MAKE SURE empire does not include you on their mailing-list for random crap.

4. I think you could just say that it must have been something you got when you were surfing on some sports-website.
Say that you think you were on ESPN.com a few weeks ago and seem to remember accidentally clicking some banner. You didn't even know you had hit the banner until this random poker pop-up window came up on your screen.

Or come up with something else.
Say that some guy at work keeps talking about online-poker and must have put you on some sort of mailing-list even though you have vehemently told him that it's really NOT something that interests you.

Hell....just say you have NO IDEA how they got your name on a mailing-list.

It's not that hard.

When you're lying to your family you have to learn how to think on your feet!!

The money that I made is not from Empire anyways. I play at several sites.

My broher is smart, he KNOWS what's going on. He handed me the magazine and gave me a dirty look and said, "you got a magazine from Empirepoker.com. OMG, I nearly died.
