Default Legal Gambling Age

Why is eighteen(18)the legal gambling age for online poker rooms and casinos. Isn't it supposed to be Twenty-one (21)?

I believe it is the legal age in the state in which you reside. For example, here in minnesota the legal gambling age is 18, while in wisconsin it is 21. So, if you're old enough to go to the casino, you're old enough to play online.

The legal gambling age for online poker is 18 I think no matter where you live.

Most online cardrooms have a minimum age of 18, becuase the country they reside in has a gambling age of 18. FullTilt has it at 21; I'm not sure if that's because of law or preference.

Anyway, there are a few over-18 casinos in the US--the ones in Minnesota, Turning Stone in NY, etc.

I always thought it had to do with whether they offered free drinks.

Related to this, I always understood that the actual age to gamble in the US was 18, with alcohol being served freely without id'ing the reason most are 21.

Default At least 52 reasons and counting

Legal age and rules for gambling are up to the individual States. There are 50 States, so there are 50 different variations of ages and rules. Indian Reservations are considered soveign territory, so they are allowed to have their own rules. Boats go out into international waters, so another set of rules apply there. Then you have Puerto Rico, and Guam, etc. which are not States, but American Territories, so you have a different set of rules. Of course, then there are foreign countries, which by definition have a foreign set of rules .....

Well, technically, in US, there is no "legal" online gambling age...
