Default how much would it take for you to get back oon your feet?

If you were one of the displaced persons from New Orleans, how much money (in form of loan, gift, or liquid savings) wouold it take you to get back on your feet and how long do you think it would take you?

It would take me about $3000-12000. The lower end would be if I had friends and family resources available to me and could stay somewhere rent-free. The higher end would be if all my friends and family members were displaced too and couldn't help me.
FWIW, I am young, strong, have no dependants, and my current cost of living is about $2000/ month.

What about you?

I would need $10K... which... coincidently... I have in savings.

Not to say that I'm some high-roller... but the back-bone of any personal financial plan/theory/ or responsible living habbits is to have 6 months cash reserves available for emergencies.

Unfortunately... if your "emergency" funds are spent on needs such as new spinning-rims, that new riffle, and/or a nicer car...

I don't feel to bad for you when you run out of saving/cash in an emergency situation.

I think you're right at about 3-4 months earnings if you are simply looking for a job. I'm self-employed, and if I wanted to continue in the same trade would need more like 2-3 years earnings.
