Default Re: Difference between PP 0.5/1 and 1/2?

A few thoughts:

1) Table selection will become important. It is possible to find good tables in the 30-40% VPIP. You will not find many 40%+ that you find at .5/1. But this is sometimes deceptive, the super weak-tight players dilute this stat some, and really do not add any difficulty to the table if you are paying a little attention to them.

2) There will be overall more aggression at 1/2. I do not have any hard and fast stats to prove this, but overall I see more aggression (or at least perceive it).

3) You will finally start getting a little respect with your raises. Not enough to make it unprofitable, but you can start stealing some blinds and pushing out weaker players when they have marginal holdings. You just will have to learn when and who you can push.

4) This game is beatable with very little adjustment. I -- and others -- had a little downswing when we first started. But I am almost 7000 hands into 1/2 right now and I am running really hot.

5) Good luck. Seems like a lot of people are making this move up. I think I am glad I am going to be moving to 2/4 (or 6-max) here pretty soon.

6) Do not do 6-max first. I think there are skills that you need to learn at the full 10 table game first.

Having just made the move myself, the biggest thing I notice is that the game is just generally more aggressive. More 3-bets, more flop and turn raises - just more betting in general. This makes reading opponents extremely opponents.

The best way to find yourself back at .5/1 is to be a calling station at 1/2.

I wonder why they don't have 2-4, 3-6 6 max. Any ideas?
I play 1-2 6 max and I agree it is great. Its hard to play a full ring game now. It seems so slow, plus it makes it a breeze to clear a bonus.
How's the 2-4 full games at pp? sorry op to hijack a little.

1/2 on Party is the level where you need to learn table selection. If you're not careful, you can easily find yourself playing on a table with 20% VP$IP or lower. Be more careful about choosing your tables, and you should be fine if you're beating .5/1.

On PP, I just sort by avg pot and only try to get onto tables that are $14 or higher. It takes longer to get all four tables up and running for me, but it's best to be a little patient

Once I have 20 hands in on a table, if the VP$IP drops below 25% I will uncheck auto post and play till the BB comes back to me. Unless I'm running hot on the table.

When you play 1/2, play 1/2 6 max, It is extremely profitable

I second this. Especially if you're working off bonuses, you'll clear them much faster. 1/2 6max has been the most educational poker I've played so far.

I put in about 15k hands at .5/1, and now I'm about half and half between 1/2 and 1/2 full. It 1/2 full is tighter but still oh so beatable. I would say the big difference is you see more calling stations vs fish.

HAHA

This weekend was really good to me after, it was nice after 5000 hands of hovering around 2BB/100. I am ready for an "adjustment" soon.

Posts like this make me sad, 1/2 can be so profitable, but i'm on a 175BB downswing, I was just getting ready to move up to 2/4 too.
