Ontario 2/5 games rake about 4 to 8 BB/100 is this beatable???
Hi,
I found this post on www.pokerforum.ca Brantford Charity Casino will charge 10% rake up to a maximum of $5 at the 2/5 and the 5/10 tables. [ QUOTE ] If the average Ontario 2/5 pot is $20, that's a $2 rake* on average, which works out to (all else being equal) 4BB/100 hands per player. Toke the dealer $1 per pot won, and you're looking at an effective rake more along the lines of 6BB/100 per player**. And $20 as an estimate for the average pot in play-em-all, chase-em-all holdem is on the conservative side, don't you think? So the question really is, can your skill differential really make up in long run winnings the roughly 4 to 8 BB/100 per player that's falling off the table? Maybe, but if you're that good (and have a comfortable bankroll), you might consider moving up in limits [/ QUOTE ] I couldn't figure out why I can't win given the horrid players at the Brantford 2/5 game. Could this be a reason???? Is there anyone who can consistently beat this 2/5 rake over a large sample size?? Is there anyone who can consistently beat the 5/10 rake over a large period of time or do they all move up ASAP?? I'm currently making 2 bb/100 at the Party .50/1.00 It looks like I can't beat this rake?? What game should I play? Derick |

If the average Ontario 2/5 pot is $20, that's a $2 rake* on average [/ QUOTE ] This assumption is retarded. If the average pot size at your table is 4BB, you need to get up and move. At a 5/10 table, 8BB is probably a more accurate average pot size, in which case you're always getting capped at the $5 rake. Add in an extra dollar per pot for the dealer, and that's $600 per 100 hands. My PT stats say I win about 6% of all hands I'm dealt, which means I pay $36/100 in rake. That's 3.6BB/100. Again checking PT, I paid Party about 3BB/100 in rake. That's a B&M premium of 0.6BB/100, and should be beatable by a good player. |

2/5 hold em is beatable. I play it Casinorama. Same deal there. THe players are terrible there. It can be beaten easily. at 2/5 although the rake is much higher, general the pots will be much larger. The number of BB per hand will usually be 10+. Remember also that as a good player, you are only playing the premium hands anyways, so the one who is going to pay the rake is the losing players.

[/ QUOTE ] Thanks for the reply, So for 2/5 if we use your numbers of 8 BB/hand and 6% win we get. Rake / 100 hands => 80BB/100 hands * 6% => 4.8 BB/100 Toke $6/100 hands => 1.2 BB/100 Rake + Toke = 4.8 + 1.2 = 6 BB/100 For pots of 8 BB 2/5 is about 3 BB/100 tougher than Party and 2.4 BB/100 tougher than 5/10. 2/5 has a cap of $5. For Capped 2/5 pots: if you see 6% of hands you pay 6 BB/100. Plus 1.2 BB/100 toke => 7.2 BB/100. So I wonder if anyone is winning at 2/5 long term? Is anyone out there beating 2/5 long term? Or do better players all go to 5/10 and up? The 2/5 players are truly dreadful but I wonder if you can make money with a 6->7.2 BB/100 rake. And if you can make money at 2/5 you should probably be playing 5/10? Derick |

Start playing nolimit at the new poker room @ Fallsview Casino in Niagara Falls, or Seneca Casino in Niagara Falls, New York. Rake is less of a factor.

[/ QUOTE ] Hi Benal, I kind of suck at no-limit. I keep losing my whole buyin when I play no-limit. I've just started to learn no-limit, I've read Supersystem 1, PL&NLP by Ciafone and Reuben and Harrington on Holdem. Is there a simple faq for beating these low limit no-limit games like at Seneca Casino? Derick |

I don't know about a FAQ, but read the NL/PL forums.. there are excellent posters and great advice to be found.
