Default Re: M of 5.4, UTG+1, A10o, Your move = Fold/Raise/Limp/Push?

[ QUOTE ]
Blinds 150/300

Stacks:
SB 2860
BB 4770
UTG (Folded) 5410
Hero UTG+1 2440
UTG+2 3775
MP 2960
Hijack 8275
Cutoff 2635
Button 2700

Table has been rather tight/passive overall, hero had pushed this round on the button and taken the blinds, and had a small confrontation with a button limper when on completed SB with 8/9, button had limped QQ, checked turn, and just called hero on turn when hero bet middle pair/OESD , checked to hero who missed on river and hero checked behind.

Hero is dealt A/10o UTG+1, M of 5.4, blinds going up to 200/400 in 4 minutes. Would you push, limp (with what intention), raise (how much),or fold here?

[/ QUOTE ]

Though I love AT (I think I overplay it generally), I think I'd grit my teeth and fold it here. It's just not good enough with so many people left to act. I think I'd push AJs and better.

I fold.
Even with my M dropping to ~4 in two hands, I can utilize position to get my blinds back, and I'm hoping to find some stronger hands in MP/LP in the next orbit.

In this spot, I'll probably push AQo/AQs+, 66+.

So you would fold AJs here nsj? I'm not sure how much better 6's and 7's are in this spot against a calling range of 7/7+ / AJo+. The A10o seems to be more favorable against more than half of the calling range (48 ways to deal 7/7 - AA and 48 ways AJ - AK, but with you holding an A, AA chance cut in half and 36 ways to deal AJ-AK) than 6's / 7's, especially against non AA pocket pairs above 7's, and even when dominated by AJ-AK, still has a 22-24% to win and 28ish % to win/split, depending on suits, whereas 6's vs dominating pair (half of range)is a solid 18-19% while being 51%-54% vs overcards depending on suits.

with an M of ~5 and blinds about to hit you I shove here and hope. Once you pass through the blinds they will probably be going up and your M will be down to 3.

But your stack will still be a threat to every other player at the table except the big stack.

Push. The EV of pushing vs. folding is probably pretty close here, so it's not really a right/wrong thing. In general I'm just a big proponent of getting chips sooner rather than later whenever possible.

My gut says fold as you have FE against everyone but the hijack. I think you can definitely find a better spot if the table is tight and passive.

[/ QUOTE ]Ummm... I'm pretty sure he'd be happy to take down the pot without a showdown. Therefore having mucho FE = good thing.

[/ QUOTE ]

My point was that he can fold and still retain his FE against everyone at the table except probably the hijack even when the blinds go through him given the stack sizes. And yes, I agree that he would like to win this right here, obviously, but there r too many left to act and I think it's a fold.

How much different is A10o from AJo in this spot though? If you are getting called, you are likely in bad shape either way.

[/ QUOTE ]Good post and this is really the key. Unless you put AJ in the range of hands that the 7 normal stacks call with, then ATo is no different from AJo.

[/ QUOTE ]

Don't forget TT, which is in a lot of people's calling ranges. Also, using your cards to make sure that you don't push frequently (and therefore encourage sheriffs) is a good thing.

Here are some numbers:
equity (%) win (%) tie (%)
Hand 1: 30.5217 % 28.76% 01.76% { AJo }
Hand 2: 69.4783 % 67.71% 01.76% { TT, AQs+, AKo }

equity (%) win (%) tie (%)
Hand 1: 26.6900 % 24.52% 02.17% { ATo }
Hand 2: 73.3100 % 71.14% 02.17% { TT, AQs+, AKo }

Yea, Noah beat me to it.

AJo is my cutoff hand here.

edit: PLUS i think AJs call your push somewhat frequently.

First of all, I stand with those who believe hijack is a dumb term.

Second, I am pushing here. Yes, you can wait until the actual last minute, but I am not as talented as some of the responders who are able to promise that it will be folded to them in LP as soon as the blinds pass.

Third, I agree with whoever said there is probably not a lot of difference between pushing and folding. But I'd rather force the action here than be sitting there in 4 minutes with an 1840 stack at 200/400 blinds.
