Thank you very helpful. I am referring to a small room where the floor is the brush. I agree they should be compensated appropriately by the house and should share in the dealer's tips if there is enough to go around.

The floor always seems to tip after a few
drinks...

I agree with other poster...the floor at the woods
have put me in tables ahead of list, brought me
rolling trays when I sit down with a beverage and
gotten chair cushions for me. They don't have to
do any of that, and I reward such treatment
(and I'm not a 20/40 player either).

now we need a thread about tipping the cage
after a big win...

This makes little sense to me to suggest that Floors should be allowed to take tokes becuase they aren't making decisions with house money.

[/ QUOTE ]
But - and this is my live-game-newbie ass talking - isn't it possible that floor could be seen as making decisions that favor players who toke? Would a casino possibly be guarding against that?

I read in Greenstein's book where he recommends toking the floor if they let you in on a juicy game, and I've gotta say that if I'm sitting in and I see Barry Greenstein coming my way, I'm gonna be a little pissed off at the floor.

Overheard at Commerce -

Player calls Jack over to complain about not getting the seat change he wanted. After about 10 seconds, Jack interrupts and says "wait, did you tip me today? Oh, right, you did. Ok go ahead." He was laughing when he said it but also said it loud enough for the whole table to hear.

I tip the floor for service, like table selection, getting me racks, letting me know which game looks better, etc. I would never expect to get rulings in my favor for that.

I do tip the cage when i leave, the last $1 chips left when I cash out goes to the cage and then the coat check, valet etc.

To the other poster, when I have worked as a floor in a small room. I have always appreciated any toke large or small. I had players that would never throw me anything, and that was fine I felt no ill will towards them. I had others who would give me a couple bucks or a red bird. And there were the vip's, the guys who would call ahead and I would lock them up a seat in the big game for that night where the table fills up quick and is going to be the only game played that high. The guys that got that treatment would toss me a significant toke.

Those of you who give reasons why Floor people should not be allowed to take tokes give the reason why THOSE people should not be on the floor. Only 1 person has said it the way I see it. Telling me about juicy games, greeting me and making sure I'm happy. NOT for putting me in game ahead of others. That's BS all the way around. And your a scumbag for being part of it if you toke for that. But as many of you know, my main "thing" in poker is to keep it straight so take it for what it's worth.

I'm sure you are not referring to me as a scumbag in your
blanket post. I don't toke to get ahead of any list, even though
that was one of three instances I listed. I just believe in taking
care of people who take care of me. It is said you are one of the
best floor persons around and I doubt a toke for the extra effort
will sway your unbiased poker-related decisions. If it did, there is
an equal onus of "scumbagginess".

Not really. Even if your floorman is honest and straight it just looks wrong to see the guy who makes decions taking tokes from players.

Its not only important that the game IS honest, it is important that the game APPEAR honest.

This is why typically floormen accept tips and the shift supervisor does not take tips.

Do any rooms prohibit tipping and is this an issue to anyone else?

[/ QUOTE ]

Illegal in Colorado, by state law.
